A child can spend years thinking they were difficult to love, when they were really being hurt by someone who never learned how to carry their own pain.

Children don't understand that.

They don't know that a parent's anger may have started long before they were born. They don't know that harsh words can come from old wounds, fear, shame, or a life that taught someone to survive instead of connect.

They just know that the person they needed to feel safe was the person making them feel small.

And that can become the voice they carry inside themselves.

A parent doesn't have to be perfect. But they do have to be willing to notice when their own unresolved pain is spilling onto a child who had nothing to do with it.

Because children should not have to pay for wounds they didn't create.
