What exactly are biosimilars – and why do they matter? 🧬

STADA had the honor, through our Vice President, Global Specialty Development Christine Berndt, to present during the 2026 trade fair the latest developments in the fast-growing and quickly evolving biosimilar pharmaceuticals sector.

Specifically, Christine discussed with the moderator, Riccardo Rubini, policy manager at Medicines for Europe, expected consequences of regulatory streamlining.

The potential impact of this streamlining – i.e. the approval of well-characterized biosimilar medicines on the basis of analytical and PK data, without the need to conduct a clinical efficacy and safety study – are profound: improved patient access to important biological medicines, including those that otherwise might not see a biosimilar developed (“Biosimilar void”); shorter development timelines and better use of limited resources; and of course, more biosimilar competition leading to better supply reliability.

With biosimilars having already delivered more than 9 billion patient treatment days in Europe, they are an essential pillar of the European healthcare ecosystem. But there is vast untapped potential to reach more patients earlier, more equally and ultimately, also to create headroom for further pharma innovation.

Here, not only regulatory advances, but also investments in manufacturing capacities, uptake incentives, intellectual-property reforms and valuing biosimilars beyond price alone must align to create a sustainable sector.

That’s why greater awareness matters – helping people better understand their bone health, recognize potential risk factors and take a more proactive approach to their long-term wellbeing.

Supporting bone health is not only about reducing fracture risk. It is also about helping people stay active, continue doing the things they enjoy and maintain their independence for longer.

By fostering a greater understanding of conditions such as osteoporosis, we can help individuals make informed health decisions, engage in meaningful conversations with healthcare professionals and take an active role in protecting their future health. What happens to medicines after they’re no longer needed? ♻️

In 📍 Kazakhstan (.kz) , STADA partnered with 36 outpatient clinics in Almaty to make responsible medicine disposal more accessible.

Through dedicated collection points, staff training and public education, nearly 600 kg of pharmaceutical waste was safely collected during a six-month pilot. A local initiative with a tangible impact – supporting safer waste management for people and the environment.

~350 kg of waste removed. Around 50 bags collected. 🌍

For World Cleanup Day 2026, colleagues from STADA Bulgaria came together once again to help protect the environment around Koprinka Dam.

Together with cleanup activities in 2025 at Koprinka Dam and Tyulbeto Park, this brings the total impact across both years to approx. 350 kg of waste removed from public and natural areas.

A meaningful contribution to cleaner spaces – and a great example of how small actions can add up. 💚 Thank you to everyone who took part. Small actions can make a visible difference.
