This is my dear friend, Andrea. Last week, someone asked me in a sarcastic way, if I was aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. What he didn’t know is, as of this year, I am very aware, and officially a survivor. It’s something that I have not posted about because everyone has their own story, journey, and whether or not to share parts of their life on social media. After that ‘are you aware?’ conversation, it seemed about time. Although life changing, good things can happen in scary times, if you let them. In short, Andrea and I became friends through similar experiences. She and Julien managed Trava earlier this year, while I recovered from surgery. Then, she showed up for moral support at my first treatments and has been a personal guide through this time. Add to that, a sweet community of women who have regularly supported me in ways I never expected. Along the way, I have learned a ton about treatments, alternatives, preventative strategies, misconceptions, new directions for my own vitality,…..healing has many parts to the puzzle…food as medicine, exercise, environmental toxins, meditation, acupuncture, yoga, physical therapy,….so many things that all work together. She and I are holding 3 teas that were born from my personal needs and consulting with a holistic doctor and naturopathic oncologist. Everyone needs to find what is best for them. Being well informed and a strong advocate for yourself is essential. If you happen to see us at the booth, talk to us, it’s part of the healing process. Oh, and by the way, don’t fall for all the ‘pink washing’ going on. The original ribbons were peach colored and hand made by a woman whose whole family had been affected. When a large company wanted to buy her idea, she turned them down because that company wanted to put the ribbons on their products that had carcinogenic ingredients. The company changed the ribbons color to pink, and so began the pink washing trend. Thats a whole other story! Just be authentic 💚
