Welcome to (Case & Medical Riddle 💊)
The correct answer was 4️⃣ Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis.
Let’s explore four types of oral lesions and their treatments. 👄
4️⃣ Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis
- Location: Inside the cheeks and on the inner surface of the lips.
- Appearance: A white or yellowish center surrounded by a red halo.
- Treatment: Topical corticosteroids, such as Triamcinolone acetonide dental paste.
3️⃣ Recurrent Oral Herpes
- Location: Usually around the outer edges of the lips, but it can also affect the inside of the mouth.
- Symptoms: It begins with tingling or a burning sensation, followed by small blisters that may develop into ulcers.
- Treatment: Antiviral medications such as Acyclovir (⚠️ not all formulations are suitable for intraoral use).
Recurrences may be triggered by factors such as stress, illness, or a weakened immune system.
Consult a healthcare professional to determine the appropriate antiviral treatment for your condition. 🩺
2️⃣ Oral Candidiasis
- Location: Commonly affects the tongue and inner cheeks.
- Appearance: Creamy white patches that can often be wiped away and may sometimes leave a bleeding surface. If a white lesion cannot be scraped off, it requires medical evaluation. 🩺
- Treatment: Antifungal medications such as Nystatin oral suspension or Miconazole oral gel.
⚠️ Be aware of drug interactions, as discussed in our previous posts!
Miconazole ❌ Warfarin
Miconazole can significantly increase the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, potentially increasing the risk of bleeding.
1️⃣ Traumatic Oral Ulcer
- Location: Develops at the site of irritation or injury, such as contact with a sharp tooth, lip or cheek biting, or ill-fitting dentures. 😬
- Symptoms: Usually painful.
- Treatment: Remove the underlying cause of the injury. Pain relievers may be used to relieve discomfort. 💊
If the ulcer does not heal within two weeks, seek medical evaluation. 🩺
