🫀 Atrial Fibrillation | Recognizing the ECG Signature

AF is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia. On ECG, look for two hallmarks: absence of organized P waves, replaced by fibrillatory activity, and a characteristically irregularly irregular ventricular rhythm due to variable AV nodal conduction.

Loss of coordinated atrial contraction eliminates the “atrial kick” and may impair ventricular filling.

🎯 ECG pearl: No organized P waves + irregularly irregular R–R intervals = think AF.
