Have you ever found yourself repeating the same behaviour, making the same choices or ending up in the same situations, even though you know exactly what you are doing and desperately want to change it? There may be more behind those patterns than simply “bad habits” or a lack of willpower. In my latest article, I explore why we can keep repeating patterns that no longer serve us, and what happens when we stop asking “What is wrong with me?” and start asking “What is this pattern trying to protect me from?”

Have you ever found yourself asking, “Why do I keep getting in my own way?”

Perhaps you want to succeed, but procrastinate when things begin to move forward. Maybe you long for love, yet find yourself pushing people away when they get too close. Perhaps you begin something with enthusiasm, only to abandon it just when it starts showing real promise.

We often call this self-sabotage and then immediately blame ourselves for being weak, lazy or incapable of changing. But what if there is more to it than that?

In my latest article, I explore why some of the behaviours we describe as self-sabotage may actually be deeply learned protective patterns. Sometimes we are not consciously trying to destroy the things we want; sometimes we are responding to fears, experiences and patterns that once helped us cope but no longer serve us.

Understanding why we get in our own way can be the beginning of changing the pattern.

Have you ever had that unsettling feeling that something is wrong with you, but you cannot explain exactly what it is?
Perhaps, from the outside, your life appears perfectly normal. You get up, go to work, look after everyone else, answer messages and do everything that is expected of you. Yet inside, you feel anxious, exhausted, disconnected, restless or as though you are somehow struggling with something you cannot even put into words.

Eventually, the question creeps in: What is wrong with me?
In my latest article, I explore a possibility that sits at the very heart of my book, From Victim to Victory: perhaps you are not broken at all. Perhaps some of the patterns that now make your life difficult began as ways of protecting you.

Understanding the difference between being broken and being adapted can completely change the way you see yourself — and may be the first step towards finding your way back to yourself.

Have you ever noticed that your stomach seems to know when you're stressed before your mind has even caught up?

Stress can affect far more than our thoughts and emotions. The connection between the brain, nervous system and digestive system means that prolonged stress may also influence the way our bodies feel and function.

In my latest article, I explore why stress affects the digestive system, the powerful mind-body connection and why our bodies sometimes communicate what we may not yet have fully recognised emotionally.

If you've ever wondered why stressful periods seem to affect your stomach, digestion or appetite, this article may help you understand the connection a little better.

Discover how stress affects the digestive system and why emotional wellbeing, gut health and the mind-body connection are inseparable.

Have you ever wondered why grief hurts, anxiety causes stomach problems, or stress settles in your shoulders?

My latest article, Why Do We Store Emotions in the Body?, explores the powerful connection between emotions, the nervous system, and physical health.

Perhaps we don't literally store emotions in the body, but our experiences can shape our physiology in ways we rarely recognise. Understanding these patterns may help us approach healing with greater compassion and self-awareness.

You’re not stuck because you’re weak and you’re not failing because you don’t know better. So why do you keep doing the same things even when you know they’re not helping you?

Because this isn’t about willpower. It’s about your nervous system. Most people try to change at the level of thinking but real change happens deeper than that.

If you’ve ever felt trapped in patterns you can’t seem to break, this will help you finally understand why.

Have you ever noticed that sometimes nothing is wrong, but you still can’t relax?

You finally sit down at the end of the day, everything is quiet, and yet your body feels tense, your mind keeps going, and it feels as if something still needs your attention.

Many people think this happens because they think too much.
Very often, it’s the opposite. The body is already in a state of alert, and the mind starts looking for something to worry about.

I wrote a short piece about why the nervous system can stay tense even when life is normal, and why relaxing is not just a matter of telling yourself to calm down.

You can read it here:

Wondering why you can’t relax even when life seems fine? Learn how the nervous system stays in stress mode and why your body won’t switch off.
