Stronger healthcare education starts with stronger academic partnerships.
The MCI Academy continues to expand its collaboration with universities to bring practical, professionally oriented healthcare training closer to students and working professionals.
Through new university partnerships, we are strengthening the connection between academic learning and real healthcare practice, combining structured education with the experience developed across the MCI Group ecosystem in international medical assistance, nursing, patient support and healthcare operations.
These collaborations also support a wider objective: preparing professionals with the technical knowledge, judgement and confidence required in real working environments.
For MCI Group, investing in education means investing in the future of healthcare. By working together with academic institutions, we can help create learning pathways that respond more closely to the needs of professionals, employers and the healthcare sector.

October reminds us that awareness can save lives.
Throughout Pink October, our teams at MCI Group in Madrid and Puerto Plata are taking part in breast cancer awareness activities, including educational talks, online and in-person sessions, wearing the pink ribbon and joining community initiatives.
For us, Corporate Social Responsibility also means creating space for our people to learn, share and support causes that affect families and communities around the world.
Knowledge plays an essential role in prevention and early detection. By encouraging awareness within our offices, we hope these conversations continue at home, among friends and throughout our wider communities.
Healthcare is at the heart of what we do every day at MCI Group. The same empathy we bring to patients and medical cases also guides how we care for the people around us.
This October, we wear pink, we learn and we help keep the conversation going.

How do you control healthcare costs without losing sight of the patient?
That is the question at the heart of our latest feature in ITIJ, where Agathi Kanellou, Global COO of MCI Group, explains how our five-company ecosystem connects medical assistance, cost containment, financial coordination, regional operations and professional training.
The results show what an integrated model can achieve. In 2025, Medical Claims International S.L. ernational audited 35,000 invoices, reviewed close to €190 million in healthcare expenditure, and generated approximately €43 million in value through avoided costs, medical deductions and prompt-payment savings. The Top Claims Circuit alone intercepted €8 million in costs before they reached the billing stage.
Behind those figures is a connected way of working. Medical Claims International leads auditing, negotiation and cost containment. MCI Assist coordinates medical care and supports patients. MCI Finance manages secure provider payments. MCI Latam contributes local knowledge and provider relationships across Latin America. The MCI Academy develops the specialised professionals our industry needs.
For us, cost containment is not simply about paying less. It is about understanding what is medically appropriate, controlling unnecessary expenditure and making sure patients continue to receive the care they need.
Thank you to ITIJ: International Travel & Health Insurance Journal for giving us the opportunity to share how the MCI Group ecosystem works in practice.

Our international healthcare network continues to grow.
MCI Group has expanded its provider network through new collaborations across Thailand, Spain, Uruguay, El Salvador, Guatemala, Japan, Honduras, Nepal and Portugal. These partnerships include hospitals, clinics, emergency medical services and local assistance partners, strengthening the resources available to our teams when coordinating international medical cases.
For our clients, a stronger provider network means better access to appropriate medical care, improved local coordination and greater continuity throughout the patient journey. It also supports the wider MCI Group ecosystem, connecting medical assistance with claims management, cost containment, financial coordination and regional expertise.
Our latest collaborations include BNH Hospital and Samitivej Hospital in Thailand, JMO in Japan, Swacon International Hospital in Nepal, COMERO in Uruguay, Grupo CAMI in El Salvador, Sanatorio Privado Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Guatemala, Paramedic EMS in Honduras, Clinicanaria Internacional in the Canary Islands and United Medical Clinic Lisboa in Portugal.
Every new relationship strengthens our ability to connect patients with the right care and support insurers, assistance companies and organisations managing healthcare situations across borders.

From solidarity to delivery: MCI Group’s humanitarian aid has reached Venezuela.

Following the earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela on 24 June, MCI Group committed €24,000 to support affected communities. Within the first phase of the response, €12,000 was allocated to medicines and essential medical supplies, prepared with Farmamundi and dispatched to Venezuela in four documented pallets.

Our colleagues also wanted to contribute personally. Teams in Spain and the Dominican Republic collected infant formula, nappies, sanitary products, food and other essential goods, which were delivered and organised into practical aid packs for families affected by the disaster.

This initiative is especially meaningful for us. Many people across MCI Group have Venezuelan roots and for some of our colleagues the consequences of the earthquakes affected family members directly.

The response continues. The remaining €12,000 of MCI Group’s humanitarian commitment has been reserved for future needs as conditions on the ground evolve.

For MCI Group, Corporate Social Responsibility means turning concern into practical action and remaining present beyond the first days of an emergency.

International Medical Assistance is a specialised profession. It deserves a specialised training path.

International medical assistance brings together healthcare, insurance, case management, logistics, provider coordination and patient support across borders. Yet professionals entering the sector rarely have the opportunity to study these areas together before starting the job.
For many organisations, this means relying heavily on internal onboarding and experienced team members to transfer knowledge while daily operations continue.

At MCI Group, we experienced this challenge first-hand. It became one of the reasons behind the creation of The MCI Academy, initially developed to structure the way we trained our own teams and shared operational knowledge across the Group.
Today, that experience is evolving into structured professional education, with practical training in International Medical Assistance Foundations, Operational Case Management, Human-Centered Care & Intercultural Communication, and International Medical Coordination & Global Healthcare Logistics.
Our latest article explores why the sector needs a clearer educational pathway and how formal training can help professionals enter international medical assistance with a broader understanding of the industry.

Because strengthening our industry also means investing in the people who make it work.
