Are you looking to lose 15-30lbs + before summer?
If so here are 5 things you can do to make progress towards that goal.
1. Determine your maintenance calorie amount- This is the number of calories your body needs each day to maintain your weight as it is.
There’s an app you can use to calculate this based on your age, height, weight, and current activity to work that out.
As you lose weight this number will change so keep an eye on it and adjust accordingly.
2. Reduce that number by 500 calories each day to create a calorie deficit-
To do this start by reducing portion sizes and cut down on high calorie processed foods and alcohol ( if alcohol is an an issue) whilst increasing lean protein and fruits and vegetables to your diet.
This equates to around 1-2lbs weight loss per week before exercise, which is a safe and sustainable amount of weight to lose in 3 months
3. Walk 5-10 K steps per day - depending on where you are at the moment try to aim for 5,000 steps which is equivalent to a 45 minute walk.
Aim to build it up to 10,000 steps over time.
You can split those walks up if you like so say 2x 45 or 3 x 30 minute walks = 10K steps.
Considering that walking 10K steps a day burns around 500 calories you can see how walking 5-10 k steps per day soon adds up to helping you get in a calorie deficit for weight loss.
4. Aim to drink 2-3 liters of water per day - Drinking more water helps your body stay hydrated and so function more efficiently where fat loss is concerned.
If you’re not used to drinking enough water, build it up gradually by trying the following;
* drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up
* drink a glass with every meal
* set a timer on your phone for every to have a glass 3-4 hours.
5. Build muscle through resistance training for 15- 30 minutes, 3 times a week:-
Building more muscle mass speeds up the fat burning process by raising basal metabolic rate which is the ability to burn fat at rest.
This can be done using your own body weight, resistance bands or weights and you don’t have to workout for hours on end and you don’t necessarily have to use a gym if you don’t want to either. ( Message me if you need some guidance on this and I’ll be happy to create a free programme for you based on your current situation and time restraints)
If you can stay consistent with points 1-5 over 3 months you will lose weight.
I could add in more like having more accountability and building a resilient mindset to keep going when you feel like giving up but that may not make much sense right now especially if you’re trying to do it alone.
Hope that helps?
