International Overdose Awareness Day 2026

Today, Lewis Road Pharmacy is standing with people, families and communities affected by overdose.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a time to remember those we have lost, reduce stigma and share information that can save lives.

A few important facts

🔹 Overdose can affect anyone and can happen with prescribed medicines, illicit drugs or combinations of substances.

🔹 Opioid overdose can slow or stop breathing. Warning signs can include someone being unresponsive, unable to wake, breathing slowly or shallowly, unusual snoring/gurgling, or having pale/blue/grey lips or skin.

🔹 Naloxone can save a life. It can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and is an important part of the emergency response.

🔹 Don't assume someone is simply asleep. If you think someone may be overdosing, get emergency help immediately.

💊 Know about naloxone

Naloxone is a medicine that can reverse an opioid overdose. UK legislation has expanded access to naloxone, making it easier for people at risk and those who may witness an opioid overdose to obtain it.

Knowing what to look for, knowing how to respond and having naloxone available can make the difference between life and death.

Did you know it’s Bowel Cancer Awareness Month? 💙
Bowel cancer is the UK’s fourth most common cancer, but here is the good news: it is highly treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early.
Knowing the symptoms can save your life. Keep an eye out for:
🩸 Blood in your poo or bleeding from your bottom.
🚽 A persistent and unexplained change in bowel habit.
📉 Unexplained weight loss.
😴 Extreme tiredness for no obvious reason.
🎈 A pain or lump in your tummy.
If you’re worried about any of these symptoms, please don’t be embarrassed—our pharmacists are here for a private, confidential chat, or you can book an appointment with your GP.
If you’ve received an NHS bowel cancer screening kit in the post, please don’t ignore it! It only takes a few minutes and can catch changes before you even feel unwell

Good morning!

An update on deliviries this week! Our drivers are trying their absolute best to get as many deliviries out as possible but this is proving extremely difficult due to weather and road conditions. We have a backlog of deliviries from earlier in the week so we are having to prioritise what we deem to be urgent. If you have anyone who is able to collect your prescription that would be very appreciated and if you are able to give us a call to let us know we can make sure to keep the prescription aside for you in the pharmacy ready for collection.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we try our best to ensure everyone gets their deliviries as soon as possible!
