Your body isn’t a collection of separate part, so why treat it that way?

At Body Engineering Health, my approach is centred around you as a whole person, not just the area that hurts.

I know that no two people experience pain, injury or movement in exactly the same way. Your lifestyle, history, goals and day-to-day demands all play a part.

That’s why every appointment starts with understanding what’s going on, what matters to you, and what you want to get back to doing.

Treatment may include a combination of osteopathic techniques, movement advice, exercise and rehabilitation alongside education to help you better understand your body.

I can support a wide range of concerns, including:

- Back & neck pain
- Headaches
- Sports & repetitive strain injuries
- Pregnancy-related discomfort
- Joint stiffness & mobility problems
- Postural & movement-related issues
…and more.

The goal isn't simply short-term relief. It's about helping you move better, understand your body and feel more confident in your everyday life.

If something has been holding you back, let's take a look at the bigger picture.

From struggling with sciatica to feeling so much better after just three sessions.

I’m so grateful for feedback like this and always love hearing how treatment has helped someone feel more comfortable and confident again. Taking the time to understand the problem, explain what’s going on and make sure you feel at ease throughout treatment is such an important part of what I do.

If you’re struggling with back pain or sciatica, send me a message to find out how I can help.

Not all disc problems are the same…

“Slipped disc” is a term we hear all the time, but there are actually several different types of disc changes including bulges, protrusions, extrusions and sequestered discs.

And here’s the important part 👇

A disc change on an MRI doesn't automatically mean it is the cause of your pain.

Disc changes are common, including in people who have no back pain or symptoms at all.

That's why, when assessing back pain or sciatica, we don't just look at a scan. We consider the whole picture.

- Your symptoms
- Your strength and sensation
- Your movement
- Your clinical assessment
- Any relevant imaging

The aim is to understand what is happening and, most importantly, how it's affecting you and what you want to get back to doing.

From living with chronic pain and fatigue to feeling better after every session.

I’m so grateful for feedback like this and for the trust my clients place in me.

This client has lived with chronic pain and fatigue for many years, alongside a previous back injury and scoliosis, and has tried a number of different approaches over the years.

What I love most about this review is the importance they place on having each session tailored to what they need that day.

Whether that’s their lower back, neck, migraines, vertigo or taking a more holistic approach, no two appointments are necessarily the same. And hearing that they’ve never left a session without feeling better than when they arrived means so much.

My aim is always to listen, understand what’s going on and adapt treatment to the individual in front of me.

If you’re struggling with ongoing pain or symptoms that are affecting your everyday life, you don’t necessarily have to just put up with it.

Send me a message to book an appointment or find out how I can help.

What is Cauda Equina Syndrome?

Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) is a rare but serious condition caused by significant compression of the nerves at the bottom of the spinal canal. These nerves are involved in the function and sensation of the legs, bladder, bowel and the area around the pelvis.

The important thing to know isn't just what CES is but knowing the warning signs.

- New difficulty controlling or passing urine Loss of bladder or bowel control
- Numbness (often called saddle numbness)
- Significant or worsening weakness in the legs
- Major changes in sensation in the legs

These symptoms don't necessarily mean you have CES, but they do require urgent medical assessment.

Most people with back pain or sciatica DO NOT have cauda equina syndrome. However, if these neurological red flags develop, don't wait for a routine appointment or hope they settle on their own.Seek urgent medical attention.

As osteopaths, part of our role is recognising when symptoms are appropriate for treatment and, importantly, when they need further medical investigation. Knowing the red flags is just as important as knowing how to treat the everyday aches and pains.

This post is for general information and isn't a substitute for medical assessment!!

September Reset

With September now here, it always feels like a bit of a reset.

The kids are heading back to school, holidays are coming to an end, routines are returning… and suddenly, there’s a little more space to think about yourself again.

Maybe it’s getting back to the gym. Maybe returning to running. Maybe improving your mobility. Or maybe it’s finally sorting out that niggle you’ve been ignoring all summer.

Whatever your goal, September is a great time to start getting your body ready for a busy autumn.

At Body Engineering Health, I can help with osteopathy, rehabilitation and movement advice tailored around what you want to get back to doing.

New term. New routine. Maybe it’s time for a little body MOT too.

Look after your body because where else are you going to live?

Clinic FAQ: Are osteopathic treatments safe?

This is a question many people have before their first appointment.

The answer is yes! Osteopathic treatment is generally considered safe when performed by a qualified osteopath. Osteopaths are trained to assess the body as a whole and use a range of hands-on techniques tailored to each individual.

Your treatment is never a "one-size-fits-all" approach.

Before any treatment begins, your osteopath will:

- Take a detailed medical history
- Discuss your symptoms and goals
- Assess your movement and body function
- Explain your treatment options
- Adapt techniques to suit your needs

Everyone's body is different, which is why treatment should always be personalised.

If you have a specific health condition, injury, or are unsure whether osteopathy is suitable for you, it's always best to discuss this during your consultation.

My aim is to make sure you feel comfortable, informed, and confident throughout your treatment journey.
