It’s only in the past five years that I realised what a vice was.
The first time I heard the word came from a multimillionaire.
They weren’t worth $5 million.
They weren’t worth $20 million.
They weren’t worth $100 million.
They were worth up to $200 million.
And they asked me one simple question:
“Do you have a vice?”
I had to go and find out what a vice even was.
Little did I know, I’d been riddled with vices throughout my life.
For me, a vice is a habit you keep turning to for a quick bit of pleasure, comfort or escape, even when it’s costing you something you care about.
Alcohol. Drugs. Gambling. P**n. Using food to numb how you feel.
It’s when “I want it” starts becoming “I need it.” When you keep promising yourself you’ll stop, but find yourself going back.
It can cost you your sleep, your money, your relationships, your health and the trust you have in yourself.
It will finally cost you your life.
Having a vice doesn’t make you a bad person. But you have to be honest about the hold it has over you before you can change it.
I had to ask myself.
What am I escaping from?
What is this costing me?
And who am I becoming if I carry on?
Look through these pictures and ask yourself the same.
Your future is being shaped by what you repeat today.
