💜 It’s World Menopause Day
This year’s theme, Chronic Pain at Midlife, is particularly close to home.
For many women, perimenopause and menopause involve far more than hot flushes and night sweats. Changes in mood, disrupted sleep, fatigue and chronic pain can affect our confidence, relationships, working lives and everyday wellbeing.
I know from personal experience that managing chronic pain and mood can be challenging. Some days are harder than others, and finding ways to look after yourself becomes so important.
For me, getting outside, keeping moving and making time for myself are all part of how I cope.
And taking notice of the beauty all around me on a cold, frosty morning brings me so much joy. 💙
It doesn’t make everything disappear, but finding what helps you can make a difference.
One of the most important things is understanding what’s happening to our bodies. It can help us feel less alone, recognise our symptoms and feel more confident about asking for support.
Women’s pain deserves to be taken seriously, not dismissed or simply put down to stress, age or having too much on our plates.
Today, let’s raise awareness, share our experiences and help break the stigma surrounding menopause.
If you’re struggling, please know that you don’t have to just put up with it. Speak to a healthcare professional and explore the support available to you.
💜 Together, we can make menopause something we feel comfortable talking about - not just today, but every day.
