I decided to use water as my visuals in promoting EBSA from a parent/ carers perspective.
Having a child who struggles attending school (for me at least) is like riding the waves in a rough sea. You sometimes canāt see where you are heading, it can be all consuming for the whole family, feel like itās never going to end and even when things seem to settle, you are anticipating the next struggle or tricky morning.
It can pull you away from so many things- work, partners, other children, friends (but if youāre lucky, it can also pull you closer to some š¤).
Even when you have people who really get it, it can still be a lonely, self-judgmental, over-analytical world to live in.
This is why I felt the need to create a space for parents and carers of children and young people who struggle (or have struggled) with school attendance, so we can remind ourselves that we are not alone!
I am combining my experience and love for listening circles with my experience of being a mum of a child who experiences emotionally (or maybe more accurately, environmental) based school avoidance.
This isnāt a space to get into our heads and problem solve all night, it is a space to share our stories and listen to others. To be witnessed and seen.
I will offer relaxation practices to help our own nervous systems. I truly believe and live the power of the ripple effect (another reason I feel water is a powerful symbol for EBSA). When we feel calmer and safe, it helps those around us.
Any questions please reach out via my DMs or in the comments.
If any of this resonates, I would love for you to join us š
