Eek! 😱

When you start a new book and find out your friend and mentor is quoted on the second page 😲🤩🤯

Brita - I wasn’t expecting that and then I thought ‘but of course Brita should be in here ‘ 🧡

Excited to read on - on my way to the big city tomorrow to attend the Aspire conference with another wonderful woman Dr Sam Collins so lots of juicy reading time on the train.

Fun fact - I first met Brita at one of Sam’s conferences 🙌🏻

And I’m hoping to grab a ticket for the Woman of the World event in March where I believe Natasha Walter is a speaker

WOW - Women of the World

What a joy it was to hear and meet the gorgeous Ashley James Ashley James on Saturday at the Leeds International Festival of Ideas Leeds International Festival of Ideas on the panel ‘We all belong here, don’t we?

Ashley, along with James O’Brien, Ash Palmisciano and Afua Hirsch, talked about their experiences and how as a society can do better to be more inclusive and accepting towards each other.

I learnt a lot from Afua and I am grateful for the opportunity because I know I have a lot to learn here. Another book to buy 📚😁

James O'Brien Ash Palmisciano Afua Hirsch

It was also so refreshing to be party to a discussion about trans people with an actual trans person involved, and a well informed and constructive panel. Despite what is happening in the UK, I felt uplifted by the fact that there are people who will speak up for this community - which are very close to my heart. 💜

Thanks again Ashley - I look forward to reading your book 📖 Bimbo 💕 and maybe continuing the conversation 🙏

Meditation as a practice

🧘 is not always about sitting alone in a room with our eyes closed.

Meditation as a practice is also

👀 about bringing awareness to ourselves and the relationship to our surroundings and circumstances.

😊 about doing whatever is needed in order to be how you want to be.

🧡about who you want to become

AND

🙌🏻 doing it all on purpose

Do you feel terrible for snapping at your kids, or your partner or a friend?

You didn’t mean it but you’ve got a lot on your plate and you overreacted.

We all do it and we more often than not never really meant it.

Let me ask you this though - what is it within you that is reacting to the situation?

How would it be if you could pause long enough to not react but consider whether you’re really bothered about something else or that if you wait, you might approach the situation differently.

It’s not easy. But it is possible.

Developing a deeper understanding of your own inner state, emotions and feelings is the starting place to building a different perspective.

Then how you respond and behave can come from a place of deeper knowledge and choice.

Working with a mentor - having someone in your corner - can really help in this process.

Not everyone thinks that mentoring will à dor them Ai I’m offering 5 slots to have a complementary session to give it a go.

Get in touch if you’d like to take up one of those places.

And a huge thanks to Jaz Jaz Oldham for hearing out my ideas about a possible community project I’m working on.

There’s something special about women lifting up and supporting other women. 🙏

Does asking for what you need to feel really selfish?

If you’ve gone through life believing you need to put everybody else first and that what you need doesn’t matter, it can be really difficult to recognise when having better boundaries around the things that you do and the things that you need can actually make you a better person around the people you care about.

Having greater awareness of

💡 self,
💡 being able to spot your tells,
💡 those behaviours and patterns which mean you are disconnected from where you need to be and
💡 having some clue of how to make the most appropriate changes are all possible.

With practice.

And being ok with needing to ask for what you need.

Not necessarily always easy but when you’re clear why you need it and who else benefits (as well as yourself) you’re a step closer to making the changes to support yourself and those you love.

Opening the door to this awareness is exactly what we’re going to be working on in my new course - starting this week in Bingley called BURN BRIGHT.

A month-long container with a great bunch of humans exploring
⭐ our awarensss,
⭐ reactions,
⭐ defences and
⭐ how we can actively start to grow more of what we want in life.

I am absolutely one of those people who follows the advice of it makes sense to me.

After Thursday’s ThriveCircleUK run by the incredible (award winning) Rachel Beck so much of what Claire Hurst Claire Hurst | Menopause Expert said made perfect sense to me. 👍🏻

So we’re on day three of the Apple C***r Vinegar, eating my greens first at teatime and moving after I’ve eaten.

Sleep mixed
Bloating probably a bit better

Right now I’m at capacity - a capacity I’ve worked hard to build up but nevertheless I’m near to the top.

I feel disconnected

I see the old patterns and habits playing out

and it’s hard to not feel hopeless.

Have I wasted my time obs the last 6 years, being disciplined with my practice, investing my time and money in learning more with telling people I’ve got my 💩 together when right now it feels anything but the truth.

But here is a truth.
None of us are infallible.
We’re all imperfect.

So I start again

This is no word of a lie

This is what it’s like to spend a few minutes inside my head.

This is what I was thinking about walking my dog.

This is how I roll.

Meditating does not make me a perfect human being

If I still lose my cool when the 💩 hits the fan then what’s the point in meditating?

➡️I’m always going to be imperfect?

➡️I’m always going to make mistakes and get it wrong.

Neither of those are reasons to not try to create a different experience and every time

✔️ I freak out a little less or I recover a little quicker, or
✔️ I acknowledge that I was wrong make it more likely that maybe next time I won’t freak out and
✔️ I’ll respond to whatever is happening in a different way.

Just as the body needs to experience moving in a particular way without experiencing pain, our brains need to know that they have the option to take a different pathway in response to whatever is going on around you.

And yes, meditation helps me do that. 🧡

And if that sounds like something you might like to get better at then maybe my BRAND new course Burn Bright starting at on 3rd October might be just what you are looking for.
