Where do you feel a genuine sense of belonging?

Who are the people who leave you feeling supported, valued and energised?

How might you nurture those connections as we move into the darker months?

Belonging isn’t about fitting in everywhere or being everything to everyone.

It’s about finding the people and places where we feel comfortable being ourselves.

A year of intentional change - energy well spent

October | ROOTED

Week 4 – Belong

As October draws to a close, we’re exploring the final part of our Rooted theme — Belong.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve explored what keeps us Grounded, what helps us Nourish ourselves and where we find our Strength.

And now, with the clocks having gone back and the evenings drawing in, perhaps it’s a good time to think about the importance of connection and belonging.

Walking through autumn woodlands reminds us that trees don’t exist in isolation. Their roots are part of a wider ecosystem, connecting with the soil, fungi and other living things around them.

And perhaps we’re not so different.

We all need connection, whether that’s with people, places, communities or simply the natural world around us.

I chose this photograph from one of our Ladies Netwalks because, for me, it captures what belonging can look like.

Different women coming together, enjoying the outdoors, sharing conversations, laughter and experiences, with a couple of four-legged companions joining in too! 🐾

There’s something special about walking alongside others. No pressure, no expectations, just the opportunity to connect and be ourselves.

And as the days become shorter, nurturing those connections can be just as important as looking after our physical wellbeing.

Sometimes the very things that restore our energy are the simplest.

Stay rooted in what matters. Nourish your connections. Find strength in belonging.

Energy well spent - a year of intentional change

October | ROOTED

Week 3 – Strength

Over the past two weeks, we’ve explored what keeps us Grounded and what helps us Nourish ourselves.

This week, we’re looking at Strength.

As October moves on, the landscape is changing. Leaves are falling, the winds are picking up and nature is adjusting to the changing season.

I took this photograph while out walking at Aira Force in the Lake District last Autumn and what struck me was how the trees have grown in different directions.

Some lean, some bend, others twist around their surroundings. None are perfectly straight, yet together they create this beautiful woodland.

And beneath them, the water continues to flow, finding its way around rocks and obstacles.

Perhaps there’s something in that for us too.

Strength isn’t always about standing tall, pushing harder or holding everything together.

Sometimes it’s about being flexible.

Knowing when to change direction.

Recognising when we need support.

And understanding when to conserve our energy rather than continually pushing through.

We often think of strength as resilience, determination and keeping going.

But perhaps real strength is also knowing our limits, adapting to circumstances and recognising that we don’t have to face everything alone.

What helps you stay strong when life feels unsettled?

Where might you benefit from bending a little rather than resisting change?

What would strength look like if it included asking for help, resting or doing things differently?

Nature reminds us that strength doesn’t always come from being rigid.

And just like the trees in this woodland, we don’t all have to grow in the same direction to thrive.

Stay rooted in what matters. Be flexible when you need to. Remember that strength comes in many forms.

A little woodland magic on today’s Ladies Netwalk!

Sunshine streaming through the trees, beautiful forest trails, fresh air and wonderful company — including our four-legged friends! 🐾

Our October theme was ROOTED, and what better way to feel grounded than spending a morning surrounded by nature, friendship, conversation and laughter.

Sometimes the simplest moments are the best.

Some seasons don’t need an introduction.

Just a little reminder to slow down, look around and appreciate the beauty of nature.

Week 2 – Nourish

Last week we explored what keeps us Grounded.

But even the strongest roots need nourishment.

As October settles in, the trees are changing colour, the days are getting shorter and nature is preparing for the colder months ahead.

Beneath the surface, roots continue to draw on the water and nutrients they need, while the trees adjust to the changing season.

Perhaps there’s something in that for us too.

I chose one of my own paintings for this week’s theme.

Painting is something that allows me to slow down, switch off from everyday demands and simply enjoy being creative.

It’s a reminder that nourishing ourselves isn’t always about doing less. Sometimes it’s about making time for more of what brings us joy.

We can spend so much time giving our energy to work, family, commitments and everyone around us that we forget to replenish our own.

And nourishment comes in many forms.

Time outdoors and connecting with nature.

People and conversations that lift us.

Creativity and doing something just for ourselves.

Rest, quiet moments and space to recharge.

So this week, perhaps ask yourself:

What truly nourishes me?

Where am I giving more energy than I’m replenishing?

What could I make more time for that leaves me feeling energised?

Just like the trees around us, we need to look after what supports us beneath the surface.

Nourish your roots. Protect your energy. Make time for what brings you joy.
