The Mental Capacity Act starts from the presumption that every adult can make their own decisions. Even where capacity is lacking for a specific decision, the person's own wishes and feelings still shape what happens next.
Best interests decisions are never about ignoring someone. They are about choosing the option that respects that person as fully as possible, while keeping them safe, and always looking for the least restrictive option available.
Capacity can be decision specific and it can change. A voice does not disappear because one decision needs extra support.
