Today I took the kids to Tate Modern to see Hold, an interactive sound installation by Lebanese artist and composer Tarek Atoui.
The installation transforms the enormous Turbine Hall into a space for listening, exploring sound through sculpture, vibration, movement and interaction.
One of the things I found most fascinating was how Atoui’s work explores the idea that sound isn’t just something we hear with our ears, but something we can feel through our whole bodies.
I found it really beautiful. I loved how you could interact with the sound, explore it in your own way and notice how it changed depending on where you were and how you engaged with it.
I love seeing the different ways sound can draw us in, invite curiosity and change how we pay attention. Two people can be in exactly the same space and come away with something completely different. There’s no single experience we’re all supposed to have and I love that.
As someone who works with sound and meditation, this really resonated with me. And having studied installation art years ago, it was particularly lovely to see those two interests come together.
Such a great day! It’s on until 11th April 2027 if you fancy going along. Highly recommend ✨
