When should you use Larval Therapy? π€ Itβs as easy as A, B, C, Dβ¦
A stands for AT RISK Patient π
Did you know that a crucial component in knowing when to use Larval Therapy, is figuring out whether a patient is a suitable candidate, based on their risk factors for debridement.
If a patient is deemed at risk, due to factors such as chronic health concerns or underlying illness, swift debridement of their wound is often necessary. We know that Larval Therapy should be effective in such a scenario, due to its fast yet gentle mode of debridement.
The patient presented in our Case Study, is deemed at risk because they are a Type II Diabetic, with a history of chronic leg ulcers that have persisted for 6 months duration. In addition, other methods of debridement previously attempted have failed to progress the wound toward healing.
This patient was therefore a perfect candidate for Larval Therapy, and went on to have successful treatment β
