Equine Reflections CIC I have over 15 years of experience working with children in a primary school setting. I am also certified in First Aid.

Equine Reflections uses innovative equine assisted learning (EAL) programmes to help children and young people raise self esteem, build confidence, understand emotions and develop positive relationships through activities and interactions with horses. Following my training as a Learning Mentor, I worked extensively with children experiencing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. I subsequently qualified as an Equine Facilitated Learning Coach and currently support children with special educational needs through this approach. I hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate and have completed Advanced Safeguarding Training, which I renew annually. Equine Reflections CIC is a registered Community Interest Company. I comply fully with all licensing requirements set out by North Somerset Council. This includes maintaining current Risk Assessments, Safeguarding Policies, Health and Safety Policies, and detailed procedures for the care and welfare of the horses and ponies involved in our programmes.

Learning goes beyond the classroomโ€ฆ sometimes it happens right beside a horse!

Today, we had a wonderful opportunity for a child to observe and be included in a horseโ€™s dental procedure, offering a unique, hands-on experience through Equine Assisted Learning. ๐Ÿฆท๐ŸŽ

Being part of this experience allowed the child to see first-hand how we care for our horses, why their health matters, and the importance of trusting the professionals who help keep them happy and healthy.

โœจ So much learning happens in moments like these:
๐Ÿ’š Developing curiosity and asking questions
๐Ÿด Building confidence around new experiences
๐Ÿง  Learning about horse health, welfare and responsible care
๐Ÿค Understanding trust, teamwork and communication
๐ŸŒฑ Discovering that learning can happen in the most unexpected ways

By being included in real-life experiences, children can develop a deeper connection with animals, build their understanding of the world around them, and celebrate their own learning journey.

At the heart of Equine Assisted Learning is the belief that every experience offers an opportunity to grow, explore and discover something new. ๐Ÿ’ซ

Sometimes, the most powerful lessons have four legs, a gentle nicker, and a little bit of patience! ๐Ÿดโค๏ธ

๐Ÿด Trying New Things โ€“ Learning Through Our Ponies ๐Ÿ’›

Over the last couple of weeks at Equine Reflections CIC, our focus has been on trying new things and exploring how we can manage the feelings that come with stepping outside our comfort zones.

Whether starting a new school, moving into a new class, or simply feeling nervous about trying something different for fear of failure or not liking it, new experiences can feel daunting for children.

Through equine-assisted learning, weโ€™ve been working with our ponies on gentle desensitisation activities, encouraging our participants to observe how the ponies respond to unfamiliar experiences and think about what they might need to feel safe, supported and confident. ๐ŸŽ

๐Ÿ’ญ How might the pony be feeling?
๐Ÿ’ญ What could be making them feel unsure?
๐Ÿ’ญ How can we help them overcome their worries?
๐Ÿ’ญ What might help us when we feel the same way?

One of the things I love most about the work we do is how naturally these conversations unfold through our interactions with the horses and ponies.

Sometimes, itโ€™s much easier for children to recognise and talk about feelings and emotions when they first see them reflected in an animal. From there, they can begin to make connections with their own experiences and, together, explore practical tools and strategies to help them navigate their worries.

โœจ Building confidence, developing emotional awareness and learning that trying something new doesnโ€™t mean we have to get it perfect first time.

Sometimes, all we need is a little patience, understanding and the confidence to take that first step. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿด

๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿด World Mental Health Day 2026 ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’š

โ€œLived experiences heard. Real voices, real change.โ€

Today is a reminder that behind every story is a person who deserves to be heard, understood and supported โ€” without judgement.

At Equine Reflections we recognise that not everyone finds it easy to put their feelings into words. Sometimes, having the space to simply be can make all the difference.

๐Ÿด Horses live in the moment. They respond to body language, emotions and the energy we bring, offering us opportunities to build self-awareness, confidence, trust and connection.

Through working alongside horses, people can explore their emotions, recognise their strengths, develop healthy boundaries and discover new ways of communicating โ€” all at their own pace, in a safe and supportive environment.

๐Ÿ’š Every lived experience matters. Every voice deserves to be heard. Every person deserves the chance to feel seen, valued and understood.

Mental health support isnโ€™t one-size-fits-all. For some, the connection with a horse can open the door to conversations, learning and personal growth that words alone may not reach.

Today, letโ€™s listen without judgement, make space for real stories and continue creating environments where people feel safe enough to be themselves.

Because when we truly listen to lived experiences, we create opportunities for real understanding โ€” and real change. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿด

๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿด Welcome back ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ‚

It has been so lovely welcoming back our young learners over the last couple of weeks.

Thereโ€™s something really special about seeing the horses, ponies and young people reconnect after time apart. Those meaningful relationships are such an important part of what we do, building trust, confidence and a sense of connection through time spent together.

Weโ€™ve loved watching familiar bonds being re established, with lots of happy faces, gentle moments and plenty of pony time! ๐Ÿดโœจ

Hereโ€™s to another wonderful year of earning, growing and creating special memories together.

๐Ÿ‚ Happy Autumn Equinox! ๐Ÿ‚

Thereโ€™s something so special about this time of year โ€” crisp mornings, golden sunshine, chilly evenings, colourful trees and that feeling of slowing down a little. ๐Ÿงก

Iโ€™m not quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet, but autumn is definitely one of my favourite seasons. ๐Ÿ

The changing leaves are a lovely reminder that itโ€™s okay to let go of things that no longer serve us, make space for rest, and trust that new beginnings will come in their own time.

So today Iโ€™ll be enjoying the sunshine, the horses and all those little signs that autumn is here. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ‚

What are you ready to let go of this autumn? โค๏ธ

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿด Happy 19th Birthday, Kokomo! โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒ‘

Our beautiful Kokomo celebrated her 19th birthday yesterday โ€” and she continues to give so much to so many. ๐Ÿ’•

Through her gentle presence, patience and wisdom, Kokomo plays such a special role in our equine-assisted learning sessions. She helps create a space where people can slow down, connect, build confidence, regulate emotions and discover new things about themselves.๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’ซ

And what better way to celebrate this very special girl than with a partial solar eclipse on her birthday! ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒ˜โœจ

Happy 19th birthday, Kokomo. Thank you for all the moments of connection, learning and joy you give so generously. โค๏ธ
