Before you start eliminating foods one by one, check the boring stuff first.

Are you eating regularly? Drinking enough? It's less exciting than a trigger list, but it's often the most solid place to start — then log meals, hydration and symptoms for a few weeks and let the pattern show itself.

If you've been hunting for the one food behind your migraines… the strongest evidence points somewhere else.

Skipping meals, long gaps between eating, late dinners — and dehydration — get reported as migraine triggers far more consistently than any single food.

Cut chocolate, cheese and w**e but your migraines haven't budged? You might not be doing it wrong.

Migraines have an early phase — the prodrome — that can start hours before the pain, often with cravings. So the chocolate you reached for before an attack might be an early symptom, not the cause.

Why your IBS flares seem random (they're usually not) 🧡

It's rarely one food. Triggers can be delayed. Small things — FODMAPs, stress, sleep, cycle phase — stack up until you cross your threshold, so a food that's fine one week tips you over the next.

The way through is spotting your own pattern: track food, symptoms, sleep and stress together and the links surface.

General info, not medical advice — always check with your GP.

The fix usually isn't another food rule — it's spotting your pattern. 🔍

When you track food, symptoms, sleep and stress together, the hidden links start to surface. That's where real, lasting change comes from.

General info, not medical advice — always check with your GP.

IBS feels random because it's usually a combination — not one villain food.

The good news? More levers to pull. You don't have to cut everything — work on sleep, stress, pace and overall load, and look for patterns.

A food & symptom diary like mySymptoms makes those patterns easier to see. General info, not medical advice — always check with your GP.

Why a 'safe' food suddenly isn't.

Stress, poor sleep and hormones quietly fill your 'jug' all day. Add a normal meal on top and it spills over — so the food takes the blame for the whole load.

Ease the background load and your tolerance often comes back. 🧡

Your flare might not be about lunch at all. ⏳

IBS often reacts on a delay — what you feel now can trace back hours, or even to yesterday. That timing gap is a big reason flares feel so random.

Tracking across the whole day (not just the last meal) is how the real trigger shows up.

General info, not medical advice — always check with your GP.

MYTH: cutting more foods calms your IBS.

Endless elimination usually just shrinks your diet without settling the flare — because the real driver is rarely one single food. It's the whole picture: food, stress, sleep, timing and hormones stacking up together.

Start with the pattern, not the bin. 🧡

General info, not medical advice — always check with your GP.

IBS flares can feel like they come out of nowhere.

Same meal one day, no problem. Same meal a week later, painfully bloated by mid-morning. It's one of the most frustrating things people describe about living with IBS.

But patterns are often there. They're just not always where people look first.

Sometimes it's not the last meal at all. Symptoms can reflect what happened hours or days earlier, or a build-up of smaller factors like poor sleep, higher stress, FODMAP load across the day, and cycle phase, that push things over a personal threshold.
