There is something special about sitting in a theatre, hearing Marathi spoken around you and experiencing a live story unfold on stage. โค๏ธ
Had the opportunity to watch the Marathi play Hi Dosti Tutaychi Naay at Vasantrao Deshpande Hall, Nagpur, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It features renowned actor Sumit Raghavan and his wife who is talented actress Chinmayee. Written by Omkar Gokhale, Directed by Suraj Parsnips.
The play revolves around a middle-aged couple who are forced to attend counselling after the wife asks for a divorce. What follows is a lovely mix of humour, emotions, counselling sessions and flashbacks that gradually reveal their relationship and the journey they have shared.
Could our production Celtic Darbar work in India not because it is "Indian", but because it tells a story about people, identity and connection through an unusual meeting of two cultures? ๐ค
