💥 Strong hip flexors. Stable core. Better movement.

These foam roller exercises are a great way to challenge hip flexor strength, core stability, coordination and overall balance. By lifting the leg up and over the roller with control, we’re training the body to move efficiently while maintaining stability and control throughout the movement. 💪

🏃‍♂️ For athletic performance: Strong hip flexors play an important role in running, sprinting, accelerating, changing direction and driving the knees with power. Combined with good core stability, they help improve movement efficiency, coordination and control.

🙌 For everyday life: These qualities are just as important outside of sport. From walking and climbing stairs to getting up off the floor, maintaining balance and moving confidently throughout the day, strong hip flexors and a stable core help make everyday movements feel easier and more controlled.

🔥 The goal isn’t just to perform better in sport — it’s to build a stronger, more balanced and capable body for life.

Hamstring stability: the missing link in your training. 🦵🔥

Using the foam roller to challenge hamstring stability and control can help develop:
▪️ Better neuromuscular control — improving your ability to control movement and maintain stability.
▪️ Athletic performance — supporting acceleration, sprinting, deceleration and changes of direction.
▪️ Everyday movement — helping with walking, bending, climbing stairs and maintaining control through different positions.
▪️ Lower back health — the hamstrings work alongside the glutes and trunk muscles to support movement at the hips and pelvis. Improving strength and control here can be useful as part of a wider approach to managing lower back tightness.

The hamstrings aren’t just there to bend your knees. They’re essential for controlling the hips, absorbing force and producing power.

Don’t just train for strength. Train for stability, control and performance. 💪

Core stability is fundamental to how well you move as a dancer. 🩰

It’s not just about strengthening your midsection — it’s about your ability to control your body while you move.

Here are 5 reasons I prioritise core stability training with the dancers I work with:

• 1. Better balance
A stable centre gives you greater control over your body, helping you stay balanced through turns, extensions, balances and changes of position.

• 2. Stronger standing leg
Your core works with your pelvis and standing leg to create stability. This is especially important when your working leg is moving freely through space.

• 3. More controlled extensions
The higher you lift your leg, the more control you need through your pelvis and spine. Core stability helps you maintain your position rather than compensating elsewhere.

• 4. Improved force transfer
Your core connects your upper and lower body, allowing you to transfer force more effectively in movements such as jumps, turns and travelling sequences.

• 5. Greater movement control
Good core stability allows you to control positions, transitions and landings more efficiently — helping you move with more precision and less unnecessary movement.

For dancers, strength without control isn’t enough.

The goal is to build the strength and stability that allow you to execute your technique with greater confidence, precision and consistency.

This is exactly the type of work I incorporate into my 1-2-1 online performance coaching for dancers.

A reminder that the exercises we often skip might be the ones we need the most. 👏🏼

It’s easy to focus on what’s written in the programme. The heavy lifts, the miles, the speed work, the sessions that feel productive and give us that sense of achievement.

But what about the smaller things we leave out? The stability work, the mobility, the single-leg control, the movement quality and the little weaknesses we keep putting off addressing?

Training isn’t just about doing more of what you’re already good at. It’s also about giving attention to the things you tend to neglect ‼️

Because performing at your best isn’t only about how hard you can push. It’s about building the foundations that allow you to keep pushing, consistently and effectively.

Don’t just tick the boxes on your programme. Take the time to work on the things that support it, too. Sometimes, the biggest gains come from the smallest things. 💪🏼
