This week we brought clinicians together for Beyond the Surface: Science, Safety & Legalities of Pressure Ulcer Prevention, and what a day it was!

⚖️Rachel Apsey, Medstrom’s Group Chief Executive and Registered Nurse, opened with her Science of Surfaces presentation, breaking down the principles behind therapeutic support surfaces. Sarah Jones followed with her session on preparing for coroner’s court, before Alison Parnham led an afternoon mock court that helped delegates understand the process in a safe, supportive environment.

Huge thank you to our speakers and to everyone who joined us. The conversations, questions and shared experiences made the day genuinely valuable.

September has been a busy month at Medstrom as we’ve continued to champion education around deconditioning - from our recent webinar event to insightful conversations at NBE.

But the conversation doesn’t end there. If you haven’t already, explore our three‑part article series with Emma Tarpey, where she unpacks the unintended consequences of deconditioning, why every day in bed matters, and how early intervention can change everything from day one.

It’s , a moment to recognise the teams who deliver incredible palliative and end‑of‑life support every day. 🧡

As part of that, we’ve been giving back through our monthly hospice giveaway, providing complementary Dolphin Therapy and ECO Portable Shower days to help support dignity and comfort in end‑of‑life care. Hospices work tirelessly, often with limited funding, so we’re doing what we can to support the care they provide.

Here’s July’s winner, Willowbrook Hospice, receiving their complementary package of care. The giveaway runs for the rest of the year, with plenty more chances for hospices to get involved.

We had a brilliant day at our live/virtual event, Deconditioning Uncovered, this week. 💻✨

Bringing together the perspectives of a researcher, a senior clinician and a patient with lived experience, the session explored the multi-system impact of deconditioning and, importantly, brought the conversation back to the individual at the centre of it all, the patient.

One of the biggest takeaways was the importance of understanding what matters to and motivates each individual patient. Getting up and moving shouldn’t just be seen as something to enable speedier discharge. We need to help patients understand why movement matters, how maintaining mobility, independence and everyday activity can help prevent deconditioning and protect the things that are important to them. 🚶

Alongside the talks, attendees took part in practical sessions, interacting with real-world solutions and exploring how they can be applied in clinical practice to support patients to keep moving, maintain independence and work towards the outcomes that matter to them. 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such an engaging day.

🎥 Keep an eye out for the recording, it’s coming soon.

In the meantime, if you joined us on the day, we’d love to hear what resonated with you most.

September is also known as 💤 So, what if one of the most important objectives during a patient's recovery is the quality of their sleep?

For complex patients who struggle with movement or can’t tolerate frequent repositioning, fluid‑immersion simulation can help create a calmer, more stable environment. One example is Medstrom's Dolphin Therapy surface, which enables full immersion and envelopment, reducing tissue deformation whilst helping patients rest more consistently. 🐬

Plus, paired with a lateral‑tilt bed, it supports essential repositioning with less disruption - promoting better rest throughout the night.

this September is an important one.

Eden’s story reminds us that pain isn’t always managed through pharmaceutical measures alone - sometimes, the biggest difference comes from the support surface beneath the patient.

When Eden moved onto Dolphin Therapy, it was the first time her pain eased enough for her to feel comfortable and even sleep through the night. This month, we're highlighting real experiences like Eden's to show how important pain management is vital for recovery and how the right surface can support better outcomes. ❤️

It’s been a busy and brilliant few weeks at Medstrom as we attended both the National Back Exchange conference and European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel - EPUAP

NBE was a real highlight for us, with our workshop "Breaking the Deconditioning Cycle" drawing great attendance and discussion. Our stand sparked plenty of interest too, especially around preventing deconditioning with solutions like the ECO Portable Patient Shower and Vela XL.

At EPUAP, we had an energising week immersing teams in the evidence behind Dolphin Therapy 🐬 with valuable conversations around pressure ulcer prevention and person‑centred care.

Thank you to everyone who joined us across both events! If you’d like to continue the conversation, we’re available 24/7/365 on 0345 371 171. 📞
