Have you ever felt like you've lost touch with who you actually are?

Sometimes it happens so gradually that we don't even notice.

We adapt to relationships, responsibilities and other people's expectations. We become good at keeping the peace, being dependable, fitting in, or simply being the person everyone needs us to be.

And somewhere along the way, we can lose sight of our own needs, preferences and sense of identity
It's something I encounter in my counselling work, and it can be particularly relevant for people who've spent years masking parts of themselves or putting others first.
Finding yourself again isn't necessarily about reinventing yourself
Sometimes it's about becoming curious about what matters to you, recognising patterns you've developed over time, and gradually reconnecting with the parts of yourself that have been pushed aside.

🌿 I've written a longer article exploring this on my website.

“I Don't Know Who I Am Anymore” — link in bio.

And if this resonates, perhaps save it for another day or share it with someone who might find it helpful.

🌿 Module 1 is ready.
I've spent the last few months creating Understanding Yourself Beyond the Label — a gentle, reflective course for adults who recognise ADHD-style traits in themselves, whether diagnosed or not.
Rather than beginning with what's “wrong”, we'll explore curiosity, self-understanding, masking, authenticity, emotions, strengths and learning to work with yourself rather than constantly fighting against yourself.
For the next few days, I'm opening Module 1 completely free.
Sign up by Monday and you'll keep your access free — there's no subscription and you won't suddenly be charged afterwards.
From Monday, Module 1 will move to its introductory price of £9.99.
No diagnosis needed. No pressure to have everything figured out.
Just bring your curiosity. 🌿

A few new additions to my ADHD resource library 🌲
I've been writing about some of the themes I regularly explore in counselling and in Authentic Living, including feeling different, rejection sensitivity, replaying conversations and masking.
All free to read if any of them sound useful.

Volunteers always needed.

At the Friends of Cheltenham Samaritans, we run events to fundraise for Cheltenham Samaritans branch. But we also know that they couldn't deliver their amazing service without volunteers.

Would you consider joining them as a listening volunteer?

They hold regular information evenings where you can find out more about what is involved. The next on is being held on May 11th. Visit their website to find out more about volunteering and to sign up to attend this information session.

B**r Festival, Website Feedback & Samaritans

Hey everyone!

I’m Ben, a local integrative counsellor (and proud sponsor of the upcoming Cheltenham Samaritans B**r Festival). I’m reaching out for a little community help:

I’d love your honest feedback on my therapy website—and as a thank you, you’ll be entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets to the b**r festival I’m sponsoring! Just fill out a quick survey after visiting my site (link below).

Why am I doing this? - I want my website to be genuinely welcoming and easy to use for anyone seeking support—mental health matters, and so does first impressions. - I’m not an IT expert or web designer (I promise I won’t hold negative feedback against you—my clients say I’m a decent counsellor, but I know my limits!). - Plus, it’s a great way to highlight the brilliant work Samaritans do in our community—raising funds and awareness for mental health support.

FAQ

Q: Isn’t alcohol a depressant? Should a counsellor sponsor a b**r festival?

A: Great question—yes, alcohol is a depressant, and for some people it can contribute to low mood or addiction. As a counsellor, I always encourage moderation and self-awareness. For many, though, events like these are about community, connection, and supporting causes like Samaritans. My aim is to help people access support—whether that’s through raising funds, open conversations, or therapy for those who need it.

Q: What does Samaritans actually do?

A: Samaritans provides 24/7 emotional support for anyone who’s struggling to cope, including those at risk of su***de. They’re a lifeline for many, and every penny from the festival helps them keep their services running.

Q: Is this just a sneaky way to advertise your business?

A: I am a local counsellor, so yes, there’s a bit of business awareness here—but mostly, I want to make sure people who need support can find it easily. Honest feedback helps me help others.

Q: How do I enter the ticket draw?

A: Just visit https://www.therapy-with-ben.co.uk, fill out the feedback survey below, and you’re in the draw! (Winner picked at random—no pressure, no sales pitch, just gratitude. - just forward me your answers and name for the draw, I won't be keeping your details other than for competition)

Website Feedback:

What was your first impression of the website?

Is it clear what services I offer? (Yes/No/Not sure)

Did you feel comfortable or reassured by the site? (Why/why not?)

Was it easy to find information or book a session?

Anything confusing, missing, or off-putting?

Any suggestions for improvement (big or small)?

Would you recommend the site to a friend looking for support? (Yes/No/Maybe)

Anything else you’d like to share? (Optional)

Name/email for the ticket draw (optional, only used for the prize)

Thanks again for supporting local mental health and the Samaritans!
