If you have been eating in a deficit and not seeing the change, then you’re not alone.

Although I’m sure there will be people that doubted how well you followed the process.

You know you did it right, but somehow the maths didn’t add up. This is infuriating.

I work with people in this situation and teach them how to eat around their training so that they can both perform and see positive changes in their body composition.

DM me the word “fix” and explain where you are at, as I may just be able to help 😊

What, or what we don’t eat can amplify the stimulus of the run.

If you are doing easy miles, zone 2… then fuelling with less carbs, or no carbs can be helpful to create a signal to your body to get used to fuelling with less carb. This can be helpful to promote “fat adaptation” where your body learns to burn more fat compared to carbs at that intensity.

However, if the desired stimulus of the session is intensity, (there are threshold parts, intervals or hill reps), then the goal is to use fuelling to maximise that stimulus.

Fuelling with carbs on these runs will allow your body to push harder and therefore get more adaptation from the session.

This is the sport nutrition fuelling guidelines:

45-70 mins : 15-30g per hour
90-180min : 30-60g per hour
180mins + : 60-90g per hour (or more depending on gut training)

For stuff around an hour but with intensity, I personally like to just have about 30g of carb 5 minutes before I start as this acts like fuelling during.

A handful of dried fruit is perfect for this.

If you’re not fuelling your intense sessions you are leaving performance on the table.

She IS glad she took the plunge 🤿

So very proud of how Verity has committed to running over the last few months.

There have even been some runs where she has returned and said, I really enjoyed that!

And now she knows that committing to the process DOES result in improvements, we are all set for the next step towards her marathon.

We have booked a 1/2 😳

Wokingham next year - let’s go

Just a sport nutritionist trying (and not always succeeding) in practising what I preach.

Certainly some moments across this day where I am not as present with the food while eating. So it looks like I’ve got a few work-ons.

Cals - I don’t know
Protein - high-enough
Carbs - felt about right (it was a rest day)

Supplements - there was some protein powder in the overnight oats. (I used soy protein isolate- as although it’s not quite as robust at spiking muscle protein synthesis compared with whey, it is cheaper and more environmental).

P.S- the breakfast was mega - working on a recipe for this

Back in Jan2025 I started a YouTube channel.

I didn’t know what I was doing. But I wanted to share sport nutrition info with more nuance than the 4-60 second IG provides.

I invested in a camera thenrealised I had no idea how to use said camera.

I released blurry videos with the focus off, as I couldn’t face filing the same content again for the 4th time while getting more frustrated that I can get the focus to stick to the white board, not my face or viva versa.

But despite this people started to watch.

I made a “homemade gel video” which did well, and jumped my Chanel from 400-4k over a week.

Since then I have been steadily growing and reached 8k this week.

I am still learning, and improving my presenting, filming, editing and storytelling, and the feedback I get is always seen as “constructive”.

If you haven’t had a chance to check the channel out, I’ve selected some of the thumbnails of the most popular videos I’ve created over the last year.

My YouTube handle is the same as my IG.
