Flaxseed has amazing health benefits. It's full of fibre, protein, omega-3 fatty acids and lignans, a type of phytoestrogen, which is linked to a lower risk of developing conditions like osteoporosis, heart disease and breast cancer. Flaxseed is also an effective source of potassium and vitamin B1, which helps your body turn food into energy.
In order for it to be digested properly, it should be ground up (then kept in the fridge), and can be stirred into porridge, sprinkled on salad or added to bread or stews, for example. It's important to check with your healthcare provider that flaxseed is right for you – if so, get adding!
