A new chapter… 👀

After 16 years as an osteopath, learning from some truly amazing practitioners and the people who have trusted me with their care, it’s time to bring all of that together in a space of my own.

Somewhere that reflects me and my approach, with time to listen, understand what matters to you, and offer care shaped around you.

From November, you’ll find me at my new space on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

📍 Room 6, Corinium House
Barnwood Point, Corinium Avenue
Gloucester, GL4 3HX

All appointments previously held in Upton will move to Barnwood from November. Please bear with me while I update my website with the new clinic details.

I’ll also be sharing a little video to help you find me, so you know where to go before your first visit.

I’m so looking forward to welcoming you 🤍

What I love about being an osteopath… 🤍

I love getting to know people and hearing their stories. Finding out what matters to them, what they’re missing and what they hope to get back to.

I love creating a space where you can say what’s on your mind. The thing you’re embarrassed about. The worry you haven’t mentioned to anyone. There’s room for all of it.

I love those moments when someone realises they’re no longer in pain, especially when they’d started to believe that was just something they had to live with.

And I love seeing people get back to the things they love. Running, gardening, playing with their children, or simply feeling more comfortable in their everyday life.

Getting to know the person, then seeing what those changes mean to them—that’s such a lovely part of my job.

When the birth is over, but it doesn’t feel over.

You might find yourself replaying moments of the birth, avoiding things that remind you of it, or feeling on edge when everyone expects you to be settling into life with your baby. You might feel angry, numb or guilty and wonder why you still feel this way.

A recent paper in the British Journal of General Practice estimated that more than 15,000 women in the UK each year could have childbirth-related PTSD that goes unrecognised. That figure is an estimate, but the message matters: if your birth is still affecting you, you’re far from alone, and you deserve support.

In my postnatal appointments, there’s space to tell me how you are, as well as what’s happening in your body. You can choose what you share. I’ll explain any examination or treatment, ask for your consent, and go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

If you’re struggling, you can seek help through NHS services or a qualified therapist experienced in birth trauma. And if your first conversation doesn’t get you the help you need, please know you can ask again.

You deserve to be heard. 🤍

Internal pelvic floor assessments can feel like a bit of an unknown 🤍

You might be wondering what actually happens, whether you have to have one, or even whether you need to prepare in some way beforehand.

The first thing to know is: an internal assessment is always your choice.

There is lots I can assess and treat without one. But sometimes an internal assessment can give us really useful information about how your pelvic floor is functioning.

It can help me understand how well your muscles squeeze and lift, how strong and coordinated they are, whether they can fully relax, and whether there are areas of tension, tenderness or scar tissue.

And that last part is important.

Not every pelvic floor needs strengthening.

Sometimes the muscles are already holding too much tension, and learning how to relax and let go can be just as important as learning how to squeeze.

Following a tear, episiotomy or other birth injury, an internal assessment can also help us understand whether scar tissue or tension may be contributing to symptoms, and where appropriate I can use gentle internal techniques to work with these areas.

This is also personal for me. Internal pelvic floor assessment and treatment formed an important part of my own postnatal recovery, which is one of the reasons I feel so strongly about women knowing this kind of support exists. 🤍

I will always explain what I’m suggesting and why. You decide whether you feel comfortable going ahead, and you can change your mind or ask me to stop at any point.

Your body. Your choice. Always. 🤍

Internal pelvic floor assessment and treatment is available as part of my postnatal and pelvic health osteopathic care.

If you’re wondering whether it might be helpful for you, you’re very welcome to get in touch.

I still remember making that phone call. ❤️

Fourteen years ago, Henry had been through a long labour, a forceps birth, and we were struggling with feeding. Like so many new mums, I just wanted to know I was doing the right thing.

I remember ringing Churchdown Osteopaths to book him in. The receptionist asked, “What’s your baby’s date of birth?” and I had one of those surreal moments where I realised I was actually someone’s mum. It’s funny how those little moments stay with you.

What stayed with me even more was the calm reassurance I felt from the moment we walked through the door. Being cared for by people with so much experience meant the world at a time when everything felt so new and overwhelming.

I never imagined that years later I’d be working there too.

People often ask me where I’d recommend taking their baby, and I never hesitate to recommend Churchdown.

For over 45 years, Clive, Liz and the team have been dedicated to caring for babies and supporting families. Now, with Anna’s experience as a midwife, lactation consultant and tongue-tie practitioner, that support for new parents is even stronger.

I feel incredibly privileged to have had the opportunity to work here for the past five years, learning from such an experienced and dedicated team. My own experience as a new mum helped shape the osteopath I’ve become today, and it’s an honour to now support other families in the same place that once supported mine.

Sometimes life comes full circle in the most unexpected ways. 🤍

I’m done with mums believing they just have to put up with pain, weakness or putting themselves last after having a baby.

My mission is to create the care I wish I’d had.

Because when mums are cared for, families thrive. ❤️

If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear your experience.

Nobody really prepares you for how your C-section scar might feel.

We often hear about the operation itself, but not about what recovery can actually feel like afterwards.

Women tell me things like:
• “It still feels numb.”
• “It pulls when I stand up.”
• “I’m scared to touch it.”
• “It doesn’t feel like part of me.”

These experiences are incredibly common, but that doesn’t mean you have to simply live with them.

Once your wound has fully healed, gentle scar rehabilitation, movement and hands-on treatment can often help improve comfort, mobility and confidence.

Your scar tells the story of something extraordinary. It deserves care too. ❤️

➡️ Swipe through for 6 things I wish every mum knew about C-section scar recovery.

Save this post so you can come back to it later, or share it with someone who might need to hear it.

Hello, I’m Suzy 👋

I’m an osteopath with a special interest in women’s health, pregnancy and postnatal recovery.

After the birth of my eldest son, I remember lying in hospital exhausted after a long labour, forceps delivery and a difficult start to feeding.

I knew my baby would be booked in for treatment.

What never crossed my mind was that I might need support too.

That experience helped shape the way I work today.

I created Gloucester Postnatal Care because I believe mothers deserve care, support and understanding as they recover from pregnancy and birth.

I offer:
🌿 Pregnancy osteopathy
🌿 Postnatal recovery support
🌿 Pelvic health osteopathy
🌿 Mummy MOT assessments
🌿 Mother & baby appointments
🌿 General osteopathic care

Gloucester mums đź‘‹

Just because something is common after having a baby... doesn't mean you have to just put up with it 🤍

So many women are told symptoms like leaking, pelvic heaviness, back pain or feeling disconnected from their body are simply "part of motherhood."

But often these symptoms can improve with the right support.

Pregnancy and birth change so much through the body - breathing, posture, pelvic floor function, core control and even how our nervous system responds to stress.

You deserve support and recovery too✨
