Remembering all the ways this work makes sense, in a world that has really failed to make any sense already this week.
We gathered to sit in the stillness together, to consider the stories we were told that left us profoundly unprepared for the world. And then we brought all our rage, and sadness, anger, heartbreak, fear and fury at the news emerging from Cornell (and far, far too many other academic institutions and organisations the world over).
Sometimes in circle we talk about quietness, and balance and instinct and wisdom.
And sometimes we just get really, really angry and we bring that into the space. And it is a GOOD THING. Because the circle can always hold it. Always.
We brought our anger, we witnessed it for each other, and we held each other in it. We reminded each other that we are not alone. And we resisted the urge to fix anything or tie our stories and our anger up in a neat bow. We just shared it. And the circle held it.
And then we realised that while for centuries men have been building fortresses made of walls and stone and iron gates to keep people out, women have been building fortresses made out of connection and authenticity and truth that welcome people in. This fortress IS stronger than any built by walls, and hate, and ownership, and division. This fortress is one that expands to meet you, and hold you, where you are.
This fortress IS the one that will endure. Even on the days it feels almost impossible to believe it. It will endure. Because it has to.
