A little Saturday night trip to the gym with Gayle 🏋️‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Gayle’s doing some hardcore lower-body stuff for her Lanzarote Marathon training… 🌋🏃‍♀️

Me? I’m sat on the recumbent bike, gently pedalling along to some tunes. 😂🎧

I know I’ve been told to take it easy for a few more weeks after surgery… but a little gentle turnover of the legs shouldn’t cause too much trouble.

Right?!? 👀😂

No heroics. No comeback run just yet. Just very nice to be back in the gym and actually moving again. ❤️

One small step closer to getting back to running… and then the London Marathon training begins! 🏃‍♂️🇬🇧

Throwback to running and kayaking with penguins in South Africa! 🇿🇦🐧🏃‍♂️🛶

Definitely one of the more unusual combinations I’ve managed on my travels! 😂

Running somewhere as beautiful as South Africa was incredible in itself, but getting out on the water and kayaking alongside penguins made the whole experience pretty unforgettable.

It’s one of the things I enjoy most about combining running with travel. It gives me an excuse to explore somewhere new, get off the usual tourist trail and come home with some brilliant memories.

And being on the water with these little guys swimming around certainly ranks pretty highly! 🐧❤️

Looking back at these photos has definitely given me the travel bug again…

Where’s the most memorable place running has taken you? 🌍🏃‍♂️

Three and a half weeks post-surgery… and things are finally starting to settle down. 🖐️

I’m still wearing my splint, although I’m giving my wrist a little break from it in this photo. It has a habit of rubbing and irritating the wounds, so it’s nice to let everything breathe for a while!

There’s still some swelling and, strength-wise, there’s basically nothing there at the moment. It’s a strange feeling knowing just how much rebuilding lies ahead.

But one thing I’m really pleased with is the scarring. The scars are nowhere near as bad as I’d imagined they might be, particularly the ones on the underside of my forearm. Considering what’s been done during the reconstruction, I’m pretty happy with how everything is looking so far.

Next Friday is a big milestone — I start hand therapy.

That’s when the rehabilitation well and truly begins. 💪

I’m hoping that appointment will also give me a much better idea of when I might be able to start running again and what I can safely do in the gym. I suspect lower-body training will be where I start, but I’ll be guided by the hand therapy and surgical teams. Protecting the reconstruction and getting the best possible outcome has to come first.

And with a certain London Marathon waiting for me in April 👀🏃‍♂️, I’m definitely keen to get moving again!

For now, though, one step at a time. Recovery first. Then the comeback. ❤️‍🩹

Berlin Marathon runners… tomorrow is YOUR day! 🇩🇪🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🔥

Wishing everyone taking on the Berlin Marathon tomorrow the very best of luck!

The training is done. The miles are in the legs. Now it’s time to trust all that hard work, get out there and experience one of the most iconic marathons in the world. 💪

Whether you’re chasing a PB, running your first marathon, raising money for an important cause or simply hoping to cross that finish line with a massive smile on your face — this is your victory lap. 🏅

Run your race. Soak up the crowds. Take in the sights. And when things get tough, remember just how much work you’ve put in to get yourself onto that start line.

I’ll be cheering you all on from afar! 🙌

Good luck, Berlin runners — go and make some memories! 🇩🇪❤️

And if you’re racing tomorrow, drop a 🇩🇪 in the comments so I can cheer you on!

Well… that was unexpected. But VERY good unexpected! 😳🏃‍♂️🎉

I’ve got a place in the 2027 TCS London Marathon! 🇬🇧

And just to make it official — I’ll be running the marathon on Sunday 25 April 2027. 🏃‍♂️

Because I have Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), I’m classed as having a disability, and I entered the disability ballot for next year’s London Marathon.

And somehow… I GOT A PLACE! 🤯

To say I’m excited is a bit of an understatement. London Marathon has always been one of those incredible events, and knowing that I’ll hopefully be on that start line on Sunday morning makes this feel very, very real.

But there’s quite a journey between here and there.

Next week I’m back with hand therapy to start working on the rehabilitation of my wrist following the reconstruction. That has to come first. I need to get the wrist moving, rebuild things properly and make sure I don’t do anything that could jeopardise the surgery or recovery.

Then, when I’m given the green light, it’s time to gradually get myself back to running and back in the gym. 💪🏃‍♂️

There’ll be no rushing it. No stupid heroics. I’ve got months ahead of me and I want to arrive at that start line healthy enough to actually enjoy what is going to be one hell of an adventure.

From wrist reconstruction to the London Marathon start line…

This could be quite a story. ❤️

Sunday 25 April 2027. London. I’m coming for you. 🏃‍♂️🇬🇧

A little change of plan on my road back to running… 🏃‍♂️❤️‍🩹

Back at the hospital today because things haven’t been quite right with my wrist since my cast was changed last week.

I’ve been getting constant pins and needles and altered sensation in my little finger, pain on the little-finger side of my wrist, and my hand has developed the slightly alarming habit of turning purple whenever I lower it! 🟣😬

Thankfully, my surgeon actually got to see it happening today.

So, we’re trying something different. The cast is off and I’ve been moved into this removable splint to see whether that helps settle things down.

He’s also recommended vitamin C and we’re considering pregabalin to help with the nerve pain and tingling.

But being out of the cast definitely doesn’t mean my wrist is fixed or ready for normal life yet! The reconstruction underneath is still in the early stages of healing, so I need to be super careful with it and continue protecting it. No rushing things just because I can finally see my arm again!

It’s another bump in what was always going to be a fairly long recovery, but hopefully this change will help.

The road back continues… one day at a time. 🏃‍♂️💪❤️‍🩹

It’s strange how much you miss something when the choice is taken away from you. 💙

I know I haven’t been very active for a while. My head hasn’t always been in the right place, and running has taken a bit of a back seat because of that.

But now, while I’m recuperating from wrist surgery, I’ve been told I’m not allowed to run.

And somehow, having that choice taken completely out of my hands has made things feel even more difficult.

When I could run but wasn’t in the right headspace, there was always tomorrow. I could tell myself I’d get my trainers on when I felt ready.

Now I can’t.

I’m trying my hardest not to let my mental health get the better of me while I’m laid up. Some days are better than others, and I’m learning that looking after my head is just as important as allowing my wrist to heal.

One thing that really does help is going to Andy’s Man Club. 💙

Having somewhere I can sit down, talk openly and get things off my chest makes such a difference. I don’t have to pretend everything is fine or have all the answers. Sometimes I just need to talk.

For now, I need to be patient, let my body recover and keep working on what’s going on upstairs too.

Running will still be there when I’m ready — and when I’m actually allowed! 🏃‍♂️

Until then, it’s one day at a time.

And if your head isn’t in the right place at the moment either, please talk to someone. You don’t have to keep everything bottled up. 💙
