Trauma Therapy by Trish Award winning Coventry-based Emotional Wellbeing & Educational Support Services for ages 4-104 years! Let's talk about baggage!

Working with schools, charities & individual private clients. Lifting Lives & Raising Results to improve long term life chances. We all carry around "stuff"; thoughts, opinions, memories & fears that have formed based on our past experiences. There are no rules about how quickly we should get over things. But if there is trauma that is continuously impacting on your daily life, then it is important to seek help.

Emotional Trauma is not an event, it is how one unique individual reacts to and processes an event that may have been traumatic for them. Some are genetically better equipped to cope; others may have just experienced too much to be able to keep going any longer. Some may have underlying mental health or physical health conditions that impact on the ability to deal with some of these events causing them to re-live the events in their minds or live in fear of them, preventing them from enjoying their life in the here and now, or planning and dreaming of a brighter future. Left unresolved, this can negatively impact on long-term emotional wellbeing and be a contributory factor in more serious mental health conditions, it can damage relationships, and lead to dependency on others, substances or dangerous habits and activities. There is HOPE and there is SUPPORT available. Drawing and Talking is a 1-2-1 therapeutic intervention suitable for Children and Adults. It allows time and space to process and deal with trauma in a safe way. Drawing allows the deeper part of the brain to be involved, especially the right-hand side of the brain where powerful emotional memories are stored visually. This therapeutic intervention is offered in many schools but is also effective for adults experiencing the difficulties of un-processed trauma. (Panic attacks, sleep problems, flashbacks, lack of concentration, withdrawal, stomach problems, tension headaches etc)

The official theme for World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2026 is “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change”, announced by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH).

The theme emphasises amplifying the voices of people with lived experience of mental health challenges and ensuring their perspectives shape policy and practice.

It aligns with global efforts, including WHO initiatives, to promote deinstitutionalisation and strengthen community‑based mental health support.

Organisations worldwide are encouraged to design events, campaigns, and advocacy activities reflecting this theme on 10 October 2026.

This theme underscores the global commitment to placing lived experience at the centre of mental health action.

What exactly is Emotional Trauma?

Emotional Trauma isn't an event - it is how your very unique brain responds to an event or period of time that was traumatic for you.

The event can even be something that happened to someone else, maybe you witnessed it, maybe they told you about it, maybe you heard about it on the news - it CAN still cause emotional trauma.

The event can be current, recent or from a long time ago - it is no less valid that it is impacting on your life now.

What causes TRAUMA?

🫂Bereavement (incl miscarriage and death of pets)
🫂Severe illness or injury (own or a loved one)
🫂Domestic violence
🫂Abuse (current or historical, in any form)
🫂Witnessing an act of violence or terror attack
🫂Bullying
🫂Broken relationships (including people moving away)
🫂Inability to have children
🫂New home
🫂New sibling
🫂New step-parent
🫂Loss of job
🫂Natural disasters
🫂Pandemics like Covid 19
.. plus many more things.

Common themes are LOSS and not being IN CONTROL of what is happening, but also shame and regret.

Drawing & Talking is rooted in Attachment Theory, so the ending is planned from the beginning. It is safe and predictable and completely client-led giving you back some control.🎈

It's been a while since I did a WORKPLACE WEDNESDAY post...

So today on my story, you can see some pictures of The Connection Cabin, and this post just tells you a bit more about it.

I am based in the North East side of Coventry (right in the middle of J2 and J3 of the M6), and on a bus route.

Although I work in community spaces for charities and community groups, and in schools, my individual private clients tend to come to The Connection Cabin.

This is a dual purpose Summerhouse in my garden. The lounge area is for friends and family connections, and any pre-session visits. There is also now a Hospitality Tray, offering Tea, Coffee, Biscuits & Bottled Water.

The desk area is where the 1-2-1 sessions take place, although some adult clients prefer the comfy chairs and a clipboard! 🎈

Block-Based Therapy is now available here too - The Connection Cabin can easily accommodate 3 participants, either on the comfy lounge chairs or seated on the floor around the coffee table (blankets & cushions available).

The Connection Cabin has come a long way from the first winter in there, where we only had blankets for warmth... there is now electrics enabling a heater or a fan as the weather dictates. But blankets are still available for anyone who wants them for a sensory or comfort addition.

More workplace Wednesday posts coming this month, so pop back for more info!

Trish on a Train...

With a cuddly elephant?

Well, if you didn't know, the Elephant is Trauma Therapy by Trish's official Wellbeing Support Officer, EARS. 🐘 He gives free hugs and has big, beautiful ears listening out for the elephant in the room (the trauma you are not ready to deal with yet).

But why are they on a train?

To ask you an important question...

Is the past or unprocessed trauma forcing your dreams off-track?
Are your emotions de-railed?
Does anxiety feel like a runaway train?

Emotional Trauma can be swept under the carpet or placed in a box. (I'm FINE)

But someday, you will have to give yourself the time to process it, because, like a train whistle, it will refuse to be ignored, and one day it could just burst out of that box like the steam & smoke from an old fashioned train, covering everything in darkness.

Enough train talk?

OK.

Let's get you back on track! 🫢

2️⃣ YEARS

Yes, that's right, over 700 days is the potential wait for Talking Therapies in Coventry.

This is what a potential new client (that I spoke to this week) was told; they would be put on the waiting list for talking therapies, but the wait was about 2 years!

💔 the system is broken, it is failing ordinary people who have struggled on for far too long by the time they ask for help.

It takes courage to ask for help. To then be told you have to wait that long, when you are likely already at or near crisis point, is heart breaking, it increases those feelings of being unworthy, unimportant, insignificant, a failure...
(all of which YOU ARE NOT) 🎈

It makes the situation worse.
Leading to emotional crutches like addiction and self harm, and long term sickness from work which can lead to financial difficulties making the situation feel even more hopeless.

Whilst I appreciate not everyone can afford my service, for those that can, I can offer;

✅No waiting List (usually can start within 2 weeks)
✅Flexible appointment times (Mon-Sat, incl evenings)
✅Face to face (in-person) sessions
✅Flexible payment options (weekly, monthly, whatever suits your situation)
✅12 weekly sessions (yes 12, not 2, not 6, not 8 - a guaranteed 12)

If you CAN'T wait - please get in touch to find out how Drawing AND Talking might help.
