Is it just us, or are all the magnesium glycinate labels a little... off? 🤔
This one: liquid sachets, “feel the benefits fast,” up to 4x higher absorption, 2000mg magnesium glycinate per sachet.
Big numbers. Big claims. Let’s look closer.
Flip it over (away from the front-of-pack marketing), and here’s what the label actually says:
Magnesium Bisglycinate 2000mg. That’s the compound weight, not the elemental magnesium your body absorbs. We haven’t run this one through the calculator yet, but even before we do, 2000mg of a single form in one sachet is on the higher side compared to what we’ve seen so far in this series.
Then there’s the absorption claim: “up to 4x higher absorption” via liposomal encapsulation.
Liposomal delivery is often used to protect certain nutrients from breaking down before they’re absorbed. But magnesium needs to be broken down and ionised in the stomach to be absorbed at all, so we’re genuinely unsure how a liposomal structure would enhance that process for magnesium specifically, rather than just being a trend borrowed from other supplements.
Not saying it’s wrong. Just saying: show us the study. 👀
We’re going to run this one through the calculator next, stay tuned.
