An extract from an article written by Aiyana Goodfellow the Founder and Executive Director of NEUROMANCERSas part of their Asylum Magazine takeover. 'NEUROMANCERS is a peer-led organisation providing autonomous, abolitionist, and accessible mental health care for and by the neurodivergent+ community. To NEUROMANCE means to “fall in love with (neuro)divergence”. This practice invites you to be radically loving towards every part of yourself, even and especially those parts we are taught are “wrong” or “disordered”. We use the framework of Peer Solidarity, an elevated form of peer support combining community healing with political education, recognising both our shared and distinct lived experiences. For example, a Black autistic person will have a fundamentally unique experience to a white autistic person, and that our neurodivergence cannot be separated from our environments, cultures and social systems. Tired of mainstream institutions co opting the term “peer support”, I coined this term in the hopes that it will be harder to sever from its radical roots. Aiyana's is joining us at our Politics and Pakora on 14th October' There still some places left, doors open at 17.45 and you can book a place by emailing [email protected]. Everyone welcome but would be great to be joined by people at the intersections of queerness, madness, divergences, Blackness, brownness, youth, disability and more. Photo of the article in Asylum.
