🦋🌞What will we do in a session?🌞🦋

Each coaching session is unique to the child or teen depending on their age, information I've had from parents, previous sessions and interests.

One thing for sure though is that they will be interactive, fun and creative. Pictured here is a small selection of things I have in my coaching bag to dip into during sessions.

Each one is pre planned, but I'm very adaptable and go with the flow depending on where the session takes us. Being a teacher I am skilled at thinking on my feet and having things up my sleeve to call upon.

No two sessions are ever the same and that's one of the many things I love about my coaching work.

So if you or your child/teen are worried about sessions being focussed on them and just talking about how they're feeling in an awkward exchange, I can assure you that is not the case. I offer lots of choice to my clients during a session and am good at reading a child's cues to move on if something isn't working.

I have a section on my website to put testimonials from my children and parents. These are just a few from my superstars and their parents.

🦋🌞Self-Esteem🌞🦋

Healthy self-esteem grows from feeling capable, understood, and encouraged.

Focus on effort, not perfection. Celebrate persistence over outcome.

💡 Try:Praise effort: “You tried different ways to solve that problem. I’m proud of you for not giving up.”

In coaching we celebrate the good qualities that young people have in lots of different ways, usually creatively. For more information about 1:1 coaching, drop me a message to [email protected] or visit http://safe-spaces.square.site

🦋🌞Emotional Regulation🌞🦋

Regulation is a skill, not an inherent trait. Children learn it through modelling, support, and practice.

Telling a child to “calm down” doesn’t teach regulation—it expects it. Teaching strategies, like deep breathing or movement breaks, helps children manage emotions independently over time.

A huge part of coaching is giving both the child and parent those vital strategies to do just this. It takes practice but over time I see amazing results from my superstars and their families.

🦋🌞How many sessions will my child need?🌞🦋

This is a question that I get asked a lot and the simple answer is, it depends on the issues and the child. I have some superstars that feel one session is enough, they learn lots about themselves and their brain in their first session and chat through some strategies to go away and put into place.

Other superstars I see on a long term basis as their needs are more complex and they need that regular session to talk things through. I have some that will book one off sessions as and when things get tricky.

I offer sessions during school hours on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and evening slots 5.00-6.00 & 6.30-7.30 on a Monday and Friday. My evening slots get booked up very quickly, therefore it is advisable to book a block of 4 sessions to ensure continuity and if they're not needed I will refund you the rest in full, no quibbles and I'm always honest about whether they're needed. Plus of course you can be in the sessions yourself, so you can tell if more are required.

🦋🌞There is something so powerful about seeing the ripple effect of coaching in real time🌞🦋

Lately, I’ve been hearing stories that absolutely fill my heart. Parents of my superstars are taking the insights, strategies, and psychoeducation from our 1:1 sessions out into the real world—chatting with other parents at the park, in school pickup lines, at coffee shops, or with total strangers who just happen to be having a tough moment.

When you open up to someone going through a hard time and share, "Hey, this is totally normal, and here’s why," you give them permission to breathe a little easier. Passing along those bits of understanding—whether it’s about brain development, emotional regulation, or mindset—changes the trajectory of another parent's day.

Seeing you take what we work on in our sessions and use it to comfort and encourage other parents in your daily life is everything to me.

And to every parent who has kindly passed my details along during those everyday conversations: thank you. Your trust and word-of-mouth recommendations are the highest compliment my work could ever receive.

Keep spreading that knowledge and kindness—you never know just how much another parent needed to hear it today!

🦋🌞There is no "too long" when it comes to supporting your family. 🌞🦋

If we’ve worked together in the past and you’ve found yourself thinking, "It’s been months, I shouldn't just pop back up," or "We should be handling these parenting challenges on our own by now"— I want to gently stop you right there.

Growth isn't linear for adults, and it certainly isn't for kids.

As children hit new developmental stages, school terms shift, or family dynamics evolve, new challenges naturally pop up. Sometimes a child just needs a quick refresher session on their emotional regulation toolkit. Sometimes a parent just needs a quiet familiar space to debrief and recalibrate.

Here is your reminder:
- You don't need a major crisis to justify booking a session for yourself or your child.
- There is zero judgment about how much time has passed since our last session.
- My door (and booking link!) is always open once you have it. You are always welcome to drop back in for a single session whenever life gets a little loud.

Checking back in isn't a sign that something failed—it’s a proactive, loving act of care for your family's mental well-being.

Whether it's been six weeks or six months, I’m always here to support you and your young ones when you’re ready. If you need the link resent, just drop me a quick DM or email to sam.safespaces.square.site

🦋🌞 Does your child need you in the room to get to sleep? 🌞🦋

If this is you and you'd like to try a way to gently encourage them to do this alone, my latest metaphorical story could be for you.

Purple butterfly explains the process in this story, the parent leaves a butterfly token by the child's bed after settling them to sleep. Revisit after 5 minutes and leave another, 5 minutes more and another. After 10 minutes revisit and leave another, and another with the time stretching after each visit, until they're asleep. In the morning they can count their tokens and feel reassured you came back as promised, but they fell asleep on their own.

Visit my product website to get your copy of the audio, downloadable story book and set of purple butterfly tokens.
