Thank you to everyone has sent us in their fond Strathcarron connections as part of our Celebrate 45 year! 🩵
Debbie, who is a member of our Hospice team, shares her family's story:
"My husband's grandad Tommy was diagnosed with cancer whilst I was pregnant with my son. He was told he had a prognosis of 6 months and therefore was unlikely to meet our child. He was there at my son's 2nd Birthday Party! My son was named after his great grandad Tommy.
"Tommy attended Strathcarron Day Care for a long time and loved it, especially making the tie dye scarves for the ladies in his life that we then went on to wear at his funeral.
"He then became an inpatient in the Hospice for end-of-life care where he died on 7 August 2021. During this time he celebrated his Wedding Anniversary, had visits from family and pets and enjoyed watching the rugby with his family.
"At this time my husband and I were engaged but knew that he would not make the wedding.
"Laura from the craft room kindly sat with Tommy and drafted a few words that were then sealed and unopened for almost five years before being read out at our wedding ceremony in April 2026.
"There wasn't a dry eye in the place!
"I am now privileged to be a RGN in the Hospice inpatient unit and get to be a part of the fantastic work of the whole team which is an absolute honour."
