🚨 PLEASE READ – TATTOOS & UNDER 18s 🚨
We’ve had quite a few phone calls recently from parents asking if we can tattoo their children under the age of 18, providing they give parental consent.
Just to clear up a common misconception…
The legal age to get a tattoo in the UK is 18. FULL STOP.
Under the Tattooing of Minors Act 1969, it is illegal to tattoo anyone under the age of 18, regardless of whether a parent or guardian gives permission.
There is NO such thing as parental consent when it comes to tattooing minors. It’s a myth, and always has been.
The law applies whether you’re 16 or 17. Having your mum or dad present, signing a consent form or giving verbal permission makes absolutely no difference.
The only legal exception is tattooing carried out for medical reasons by an appropriately qualified medical practitioner.
So please don’t be offended when we say no. It’s not a studio policy or us being awkward. It’s the law.
Thanks for understanding!
