Happy Friday! 🥳 Let’s talk dealing with difficult people 🥴😬
Let’s face it, we all encounter people who challenge our patience from time to time….People in the work environment, family members and sometimes even those closest to us can seriously push our buttons! 😬
So this brings me to my seventh reason for practising mindfulness and this is one of my favourite weeks on the 6 week course! Learning how to remain centred, even when the people around us aren’t.
By regularly practising mindfulness, we train ourselves to become more aware of our thoughts, emotions and physical reactions as they’re happening. We begin to recognise when we’re being triggered, notice the stories our minds are creating and learn to observe them without automatically reacting.
And here’s something really powerful….when we change the way we respond to someone, we can actually change the whole dynamic of the relationship!
Think about it. If someone says something that would normally trigger a defensive or angry reaction, but instead we remain calm, curious and centred, we’re no longer feeding into that familiar pattern of conflict.
The other person might not change their behaviour, but by changing ours, we interrupt the cycle and create the possibility for a very different interaction.
We don’t need to control or change other people to change how we experience our relationships. Sometimes changing our own response is enough to shift the dynamic completely.
And that doesn’t mean suppressing our feelings or accepting poor treatment. It means learning to respond consciously rather than react automatically.
I’ll be back tomorrow with reason number 8! 🥰
