I wouldn’t build a fat loss plan around a week where nothing goes wrong.
I’ve got a business to run, a son, a marriage and things I enjoy doing. Any plan would need to work alongside those.
Here’s where I’d start 👇
1. Work out where I’m starting.
I’d get an honest picture of what I eat across the whole week. Meals, drinks, picking while cooking, weekends. Even home-cooked, nutritious food can add up to more than you need to lose fat.
2. Make my meals more filling.
Protein with each meal, plenty of fruit and veg, and fibre from foods like beans, oats and potatoes. I’d want my meals to actually satisfy me, rather than spend the afternoon thinking about my next snack.
3. Make busy days easier.
Have a few breakfasts and lunches I enjoy and can make without much thought. Keep ingredients in for a quick dinner. When I finish work hungry, I want something easy available.
4. Be realistic with training.
If I can consistently manage two strength sessions, that’s what I’d plan. I’d walk regularly too, fitting movement into the day I already have.
5. Keep the things I enjoy.
A meal out with my wife. An ice cream with my son. I’d account for those instead of treating them as a failure and writing off the rest of the weekend.
6. Give it enough time.
I’d aim for a manageable calorie deficit, watch the trend over several weeks and adjust from there.
One weigh-in wouldn’t decide whether it was working.
After 20 years of training, I’m far more interested in what I can keep doing when life gets busy.
That’s how I coach too. We look at your week, your food and what keeps getting in the way, then build from there.
Which of these would make the biggest difference to your week?
