MONDAY MYTH #08 — THERE ARE GOOD CALORIES AND BAD CALORIES.
❌ MYTH BUSTED.
Have you ever eaten a slice of chocolate cake and immediately felt guilty?
Perhaps you told yourself you’d been “good” all week, only to feel you’d ruined everything with one treat.
Let’s change that way of thinking.
FOOD ISN’T A MORAL TEST.
Calories measure energy. They don’t tell the whole story about a food’s nutritional value, but they aren’t a measure of your discipline, willpower or worth either.
🥦 NUTRITION MATTERS. Foods such as vegetables, fruit, whole grains and lean proteins provide valuable nutrients that support your health.
🍫 ENJOYMENT MATTERS TOO. Chocolate, cake and other favourite foods can fit into a balanced diet. You don’t have to eliminate everything you enjoy to make progress.
⚖️ THE BIGGER PICTURE MATTERS MOST. Your overall calorie intake, food choices, portions, activity and consistency all contribute to your results. One food or one meal doesn’t define your progress.
This doesn’t mean all foods offer the same nutritional benefits. It means we can recognise the difference without labelling food — or ourselves — as good or bad.
If fat loss is your goal, you generally need a sustainable calorie deficit. That can include nutritious everyday meals and the occasional treat.
You don’t need to earn your food through exercise, punish yourself for eating something you enjoy or start again every Monday.
BUILD A WAY OF EATING THAT WORKS WITH YOUR LIFE, NOT AGAINST IT.
Enjoy your food. Understand your portions. Prioritise nutrition. Stay consistent.
EAT WELL. ENJOY FOOD. LOSE THE GUILT.
That’s Adaptive Nutrition.
Adapt, don’t restrict.
