A 5-star hygiene rating. A dirty blender. A 12-year-old who never came home.

I think we need to talk about it.

Just days ago, on October 8, a coroner in London (UK) concluded an investigation into the death of 12-year-old Mia Shay St Hilaire.

Mia had a hazelnut allergy. In August 2023, she ordered a Twix milkshake at a café.

What she didn't know was that the blender had just been used to make a milkshake containing hazelnuts.

It hadn't been washed.

Mia suffered a severe allergic reaction. Despite emergency treatment, she died.

She was 12 years old.

And now, three years later, her parents are asking for something that could change how people with food allergies choose where to eat.

A separate, publicly displayed FOOD ALLERGY SAFETY RATING for restaurants.

Think about that.

We rate restaurants on cleanliness. We inspect their kitchens. We publicly display hygiene scores.

But how does a customer know whether employees understand cross-contact? Whether equipment is properly cleaned? Whether allergy procedures are actually followed?

A five-star hygiene rating doesn't necessarily answer those questions.

As a mom who has spent 21 years navigating life-threatening food allergies, I can tell you that those are the questions that matter to me.

Mia's parents don't want another family to experience what they've endured. They want meaningful change in their daughter's name.

And I think their proposal deserves serious attention.

So here's my question, and I really want to hear from EVERYONE, not just people living with food allergies:

Should restaurants be REQUIRED to display a separate food allergy safety rating?

Would you support something like this in the United States, too?

Tell me what you think. And please SHARE this conversation. Because the people who most need to understand why this matters aren't necessarily the ones living with food allergies.

Let's make sure Mia's name is remembered for the changes her family is fighting to make. ❤️

BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty has opened up about her debilitating health condition and revealed that last month pain was so “overwhelming” she fainted before she was due to go on air.

She has said that “overwhelming would be an understatement” when describing the pain she suffers from adenomyosis, a condition in which uterus tissue grows into the the muscular uterine wall.

The 51-year-old has campaigned for better understanding and awareness of the issue as health conditions that affect women are often overlooked.

The BBC 5 Live and BBC Breakfast host said the pain affects her so much that she will “faint and throw up” - which is exactly what happened recently just before she was due to be at work.

She said: "We're shouting about adenomyosis, we're shouting about endometriosis, we're shouting about this health gap and care gap that exists, and it will take years to be heard, but you've got to start somewhere.

"I've spoken about it on my platforms, you know, Five Live and Breakfast as a journalist, but it's a very difficult thing to do. I don't want to keep saying I'm in pain. It doesn't do my mental health any good.

"It takes me back to a time when I was at school and vomiting, throwing up, fainting. I fainted just in the last month when I had a period again just before work and was really ill.

"We're ill, and yet we get all this other stuff and it makes you feel like you're doing less well than other women. I would look around... and think 'she's doing brilliantly, she's coping, look at how far she's gone, I'm not doing well enough'."

Despite her pain she still loves her work and said: “Live for me is so much better for the way my mind works. You have to be really sharp when you are broadcasting live, but if you fluff a word you just move on.

“I love being live and it feels you have a connection with the audience you wouldn’t feel if you put something out which is pre-recorded. I love that part about being live.”
