We sometimes stay in situations simply because they have always been a part of our life.

A friendship, a routine, a hi it or a way of thinking.

But just because something has always been there doesn’t mean it has to stay there forever.

People change, your circumstances change, what you need changes or maybe what once felt right might eventually feel too small.

But that’s ok. Because outgrowing something doesn’t mean you have to hate it. You can appreciate what it gave you and still make the decision that you are ready for something new.

Not everyone is good with change because it feels so unfamiliar but growth isn’t about adding more it’s sometimes about letting go of what no longer fits.

And there is nothing wrong with that.

Not everyone who comes to me for a session wants to talk about what’s happened to them, and that’s ok.

You might have already talked about it a hundred times, or maybe you don’t know how to explain what you’re feeling. You might know exactly what’s bothering you but the thought of going over it all again is exhausting.

That however doesn’t mean that you don’t want things to change. You just want to feel different without having to explain every little detail of how you got here.

This is one of the reasons why I offer Silent Counselling in my sessions as well as Hypnotherapy.

It hive you a way to work in the feelings and patterns that might be keeping you stuck without having to talk through everything that’s happened.

There’s isn’t any pressure to find the right words to say how you feel, sometimes it’s a combination of feelings. You don’t have to explain your whole store or share anything that you’re not comfortable sharing.

All you have to do is come as you are. You just have to be ready for things to change.

If you want ti find out more about what’s involved in the sessions send me a DM, a WhatsApp or book a FREE consultation and we can have a chat about whether it might be right for you.

Your thoughts aren’t always facts.

How many times have you thought something and believed it to be true?

If someone doesn’t reply to your message you think they’re annoyed at you.

You think about all the things that can go wrong when you plan to do something, probably making up a whole story of what will go wrong. You’ll make a fool of yourself or you won’t be able to cope are all stories you might tell yourself.

So before you realise it you’re then feeling anxious, worried or even upset about something that hasn’t even happened.

That’s because your kid is very good at creating stories.

You take a situation, add your own interpretation and before you know it you’ve convinced yourself that your interpretation is true.

But there might be another explanation.

Maybe they’re busy and haven’t seen your message. Maybe you won’t make a fool of yourself or maybe things will work out differently from how you imagined them.

It doesn’t mean ignoring problems or pretending that everything is wonderful. It just means that you’re recognising that a thought isn’t necessarily a fact and feeling isn’t alway proof that something is wrong.

Next time you find yourself getting caught up in a worrying thought as yourself “Is this actually true, or are you just assuming it’s true”

My dad used to say never assume. You make an Ass out of you an me.

Once you stop treating every thought as the absolute truth you might just find you give yourself more breathing space.

How often do you worry about something happening only to find out that it never happens at all?

f you'd like help with understanding your thought patterns and changing the way that you respond to them, you can pm me or get in touch to arrange a session.

Have you ever felt that you’ve talked about something so many times but the feelings are still there?

You understand what happened and you know why it affected you and you’re able to explain exactly why you react the way you do.

But there’s still something that doesn’t feel quite right.

Understanding our experiences can be incredibly valuable but sometimes knowing why we feel a certain way doesn’t automatically change how we feel.

This is one of the reasons why I use Silent Counselling in my sessions.

Rather than having you focus on talking about the same experiences over and over again we use a different approach. Using muscle testing we explore any emotional stress and then support the release of any feelings that might still be affecting you.

Sometimes we can’t explain how we feel which is why Silent Counselling can help because you don’t have to explain your entire life story. You can tell me as much or as little as you want.

Maybe it’s a different approach that you need to see what becomes possible.

If this sounds like something you might want to explore then drop me a message or book your free consultation.

Does it fit in a wheelbarrow?
This might sound like a strange question.
“I have” is something that many of us say. But there’s different ways of using it.
I was listening to a podcast by Michael Neill the other day and he spoke about things that are energy that can’t be put in a wheelbarrow. I loved that.
There’s possessions. Something that you actually own.
“I have a pen”
“I have a car”
“I have a cup of tea”
Those are things that, in theory, can fit in a wheelbarrow. Things you can touch.
Then we say things like
“I have a headache”
“I have a cold”
“I have anxiety”.
Things that can’t possibly be put in a wheelbarrow. You can’t pick them up, you can’t hold them or store them somewhere.
But the way we say it makes it sound like it’s something we own. Something we can hold or touch.
But what they are is experiences that are moving through us in the moment. They’re a feeling, a thought pattern, something that can come and go.
So when you say “I have anxiety” your mind treats it like a possession or even an identity. But it’s the mind producing anxious thinking.
Thinking changes, there’s plenty times in your life when you’ve thought something then changed it.
So if it doesn’t fit in a wheelbarrow do you really “have” it? Or is it an experience that you have on that moment that will move on.
I think being mindful of the words we use can help shift how we see ourselves.
It’s not something you have it’s something you do.

Who are you when nobody needs anything from you?

We spend a lot of time wearing masks and being something for someone else.

Maybe it’s wife, mum, sister, daughter, friend, carer, problem solver, fixer.

Being the person everyone comes to when they need something.

But who are you when nobody needs anything from you?

What do you enjoy doing?

What makes you laugh?

What are you curious about?

What wooden you do if you had a completely free afternoon and nobody needed you anywhere?

Sometimes we become so used to looking after everyone else that we lose touch with ourselves. It’s not because we’re doing anything wrong, it just seems to happen.

Maybe you just need to make a little space for the person that’s underneath all those roles. The part of you that simply gets to be you.

We can sometimes lose sight of that person but they’re still there.

Sometimes it's about allowing yourself to just put the responsibilities aside and simply enjoy being you. For me, that can mean being a bit silly and having a race on stools with my grandchild.

You’re allowed to change your mind.

If you change your mind about something it might not mean you made the wrong decision. You just might know a little more info than you did before.

You’ve experienced something different. You’ve learned something new. You’ve changed.

And that means that something that once felt right for you might no longer feel right.

And guess what that’s ok.

Avoidance feels good…until it doesn’t

When I had anxiety I would often cancel plan because I felt too anxious and once I knew I didn’t have to go I’d feel a huge sense of relief.

I’m sure many of you can resonate with this.

Maybe you’ve put off making a phone call, avoided a situation that made you feel uncomfortable or decided not to do something because you were worried about what might happen.

In that moment you feel better, then the anxiety settles, the pressure lifts and you begin to relax again.

Did you know that your brain can learn from that experience?

It starts to associate avoiding the situation with feeling better. So the next time something similar comes along your mind might sound the alarm even louder to encourage you to avoid it again.

Then before you know it something that once felt uncomfortable can begin to feel impossible.

The more you avoid it the harder it becomes to face.

It’s not about forcing yourself into situations that feel overwhelming, it’s about recognising when it’s anxiety that’s making the decisions for you and finding ways to gently build your confidence again.

And that can sometimes start with something very small. One phone call, one short visit, one step outside your comfort zone.

One small step at a time, not doing everything at once.

Something for you to think about today.

Is there something you’ve been avoiding because of anxiety even though there’s a part of you that would really like to do it.

What might one small step forward look like for you.

If anxiety is stopping you from doing things you’d like to do then I can help you explore what’s happening and we can work towards making changes.

Drop me a pm or WhatsApp.

What is Silent Counselling?

When you think about counselling you probably imagine sitting in a room talking about your problems, explaining what has happened and trying to make sense of how you feel.

But what if there was another way to work with the emotions you’ve been carrying.

Silent Counselling takes a different approach. It works with your body’s energy system, using muscle testing and energy meridians to help identify the areas of emotional stress and support the process of letting go.

You don’t have to talk through painful memories or explain every detail of your experiences, you can tell me as much or as little as you like.

Instead we work with what your key is communicating to you, helping you to move towards greater emotional freedom and a different way of feeling.

It’s a gentle approach that may be particularly helpful if you find it distort out into words how you’re feeling, or even if you’re ready to explore a different approach.

Curious about how it works? Then get in touch and let’s have a chat about whether Silent Counselling might be the right one for you.
