So, as requested, here is what I think. I think the bread industry is full of expletives. It is full of emulsifiers, poisons, toxins, pesticides, herbicides and fillers. Folic acid is the least of your worries!
Let me repeat that.
I haven't gotten into the debate - because the debate is stupid. It asks the wrong questions. People are eating themselves to disease on the crap modern retailers are feeding them. Government incentives or not, we are long past the point where bread = flour +Water + Salt +yeaat (some with + Fa)t. Now we have a list long list of adulterated ingredients to make the product cheaper and the profit margins greater.
It isn't a coincidence that people messing with our bread, our milk and our fats have culminated in an epidemic rise of autoimmune disease and neurotoxicity. Modern day, shop-bought bread is poison.
That is my opinion. I think the evidence backs that up but before lawyers wish to get on board. It is my opinion only. Herald the day of free speech.
Folic acid or no folic acid. Modern day "bread" is detrimental to your health. It's not just the gluten. It's the glyphosate. They are silently killing you. Think Rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriasis, Crohn's, Ulcerative colitis, Diverticulitis, diabetes, leaky gut, SIBO, ADHD, Autism, Urticaria, Pruritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, think auto-immune disease. Think Cardiovascular disease. Think Death.
In fact. Just think!
Sure, I give in to temptation and convenience, but, as a rule, if it isn't home-baked, sourdough, then we aren't interested. Rather than campaign the inevitable, my suggestion is to start milling your own. Get Copeland's Windmill back open again, and let's get growing our own.
By the way. I'm a hypocrit. My w**e isn't organic. My crisps are not fried in home-made chicken tallow. I'm not perfect and my waistline proves it.
But reducing shop-bought bread and dairy will only do us good.
If you don't want folic acid in your "what they call bread", then don't buy the bread. Simples. Your money talks. How long do you think it will take for a shop boycott of bread before they start canvassing the UK government to back-track on the decision?
I think weeks.
Your money doesn't talk - it screams!
Bread companies won't accept a loss of profits to its share-holders. So take a stand. Be brave. If Folic acid is your do-or-die moment. Then do or die. Frankly, I feel there are bigger fish to fry. They are also trying to stop DIY health care and access to herbs that grow freely in the wild. This, to me, is the campaign that matters. Freedom of healthcare over freedom to eat poison without folic acid. Freedom to be autonomous and free individuals who won't be dictated to by the powers that be.
Traditional methods matter. The days of bartering and trading are getting closer. It is time to invest in learning how to live.
