Beyond the Diagnosis: Pretti's Story of Hope, Awareness and Giving Back π
At 47, Pretti wasn't checking her breasts regularly. It was only after a friend discovered a lump and encouraged her to check that she found one herself. Following further investigations, she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.
Her treatment included a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Looking back, Pretti is incredibly grateful for the support she received from Mr Farrokh Pakzad, Dr Panagiotis Koliou and the wider team at Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital.
Before chemotherapy began, she understandably felt anxious about what lay ahead. When she felt able, she focused on maintaining a routine through walking and exercise and made the decision to shave her hair before treatment caused it to fall out.
Her children became a huge source of strength throughout her treatment. Sharing her experience online also connected her with other women facing breast cancer and reminded her that there is hope beyond diagnosis.
Today, Pretti is passionate about raising awareness, particularly within South Asian communities where conversations about breast cancer can sometimes be difficult. Through her Instagram page, , she shares her experiences to help others feel less alone.
Earlier this year, she completed the CoppaFeel! Trek along the Great Wall of China, raising an incredible Β£11,500 for the charity.
Her message is simple: "Take one day at a time."
And for every woman: Check your breasts regularly. Know what's normal for you and don't ignore changes. If something doesn't feel right, get it checked.
At Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital, we feel privileged to have been part of Pretti's journey and thank her for sharing her story π
