Well⌠this isnât the post I expected to be writing â but it explains why Iâve been so quiet.
Itâs been a long while since Iâve posted on this page â 5 months to be exact â and as I wonât be using it going forward, I thought it was time to give you an update.
Last November, as we were getting ready to move house, I hit my head on a light fitting. Ouch. (Proof that interior design can, in fact, be dangerous.)
Nothing dramatic â I was moving the dining table underneath it, stood up⌠and whacked my head hard on the sharp, heavy metal and glass. I didnât think much of it at the time, other than feeling very strange that weekend.
What I didnât realise was that Iâd given myself a concussion.
In those early days, I assumed it would pass in a few days⌠then a few weeks⌠then a couple of months. It didnât.
To add to it, we were moving house three weeks later, so proper rest wasnât really an option. I completely underestimated how much impact a seemingly innocent knock could have.
The advice from the NHS is simple: rest. It takes time for the brain to recover from that kind of âshake up.â So I rested as much as I could.
A few months in, still struggling with screen use, I was diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome â a bit of a catch-all term â and had to adapt both work and home life while my brain healed. Iâve been dealing with constant headaches, eye strain and neck ache, and have had to pace myself with most things.
From the moment I hit my head, all non-essential parts of my business had to stop. Social media was one of them. So if youâve been wondering why Iâve been quiet since November â thatâs why. With limited screen time, it was the last thing I wanted to do.
The essential parts of my business continued â I saw my clients, and their care was uninterrupted. But everything else, particularly marketing and social media, fell away.
And interestingly⌠Iâve realised I quite like it this way.
Simpler.
When I stopped, I saw just how much time social media was taking â especially writing detailed posts and case studies (which I know many of you enjoyed). But moving forward, I wonât be returning to regular posting here or on LinkedIn.
Honestly? I feel quite liberated.
My phone is quieter, I spend far less time on it, and that has played a big part in my recovery.
Five months on, Iâm doing much better â thanks to support from a neuro physio and a musculoskeletal physio (and yes, I do my exercises daily like a good girl!). But I also credit the rest, the adjustments, and learning to let go of the things that donât really matter.
I will continue with my newsletter, The MicroChange Digest, but without a strict weekly schedule. It will land when I have something genuinely useful to share (usually still a Friday at 12 when it does).
So if youâd like to stay in touch or hear updates from me, Iâd recommend signing up â I promise you wonât be bombarded.
And yes⌠Iâll share the photo of the offending light fitting â because sometimes you just have to laugh.
