Coming back to riding after an injury or surgery is a big moment — but rushing it can undo all the progress you've made in recovery. A safe return needs to be gradual, structured, and guided by someone who understands both your injury and the specific demands of riding.

A tailored physiotherapy plan can help you rebuild strength, confidence, and control step by step — so you return to the saddle ready, not just eager.

If you're planning your return to riding after injury or surgery, let's build a plan that gets you there safely. 🏇

Knee pain when riding is often blamed on the knee itself — but in most cases, the real problem lies elsewhere. Poor hip or pelvic control can place extra strain on the knee as it compensates, even though the knee isn't actually the source of the issue.

A proper physio assessment looks at the whole picture — hips, pelvis, and leg alignment — to find out what's really driving the pain, rather than just treating where it hurts.

If knee pain has been a recurring issue for you in the saddle, it's worth getting to the real cause. Book an assessment today. 🦵

It's easy to focus purely on lessons and time in the saddle, but riding is a physical sport — and like any sport, performance improves dramatically with strength training done off the horse.

Better core, leg, and postural strength doesn't just make you a more effective rider. It also builds resilience, helping protect your body from the repetitive strain and injuries that come with regular riding.

If your training only happens on the horse, you might be missing a key piece of the puzzle. Ask us about strength programmes designed specifically for riders. 💪

Tight hips are one of the most common — and most overlooked — limitations for riders. When your hips can't move freely, it affects your seat, your balance, and ultimately your ability to communicate clearly with your horse through your body.

Mobility training targeted at the hips can genuinely transform how you move in the saddle — allowing you to sit deeper, follow the horse's motion more easily, and apply aids with more precision.

If your hips feel like they're working against you rather than with you, it might be time to address that directly. Get in touch to find out how. 🦵

The Difference Between Doing Exercises and Getting Results

Doing your exercises regularly feels like it should be enough — but consistency alone doesn't guarantee results. What really matters is whether those exercises are actually addressing your specific movement problem.

Generic strengthening or stretching routines can help in general, but targeted work — based on how you move, sit and ride — is what creates real, lasting change in the saddle.

If you've been putting in the effort but not seeing the results, it might be time for a plan that's built around you. Get in touch to find out more. 💪

Why Riders Get Back Pain

Riders experience back pain far more often than the general population — and it's rarely random. Strength imbalances, poor pelvic control, and rider asymmetry all place uneven load on the spine, and over time, that adds up.

Physio can identify exactly where these imbalances are coming from and address them directly, rather than just managing the pain as it flares up. That means fewer bad days in the saddle, and a stronger, more resilient back long-term.

If back pain has become a regular part of your riding, it doesn't have to be. Book a session and let's change that. 🐴

Why "Relax" Is Bad Advice for Tense Riders

Being told to "just relax" is one of the most common — and least helpful — pieces of advice a tense rider can get. If it were that simple, most riders would have done it already.

Often, what looks like tension isn't really about relaxation at all. It's the body's way of stabilising itself when it doesn't feel secure or supported. The tension is doing a job — it's just not the job you want it to do.

Understanding the real cause of your tension is the first step to actually resolving it. If "just relax" has never worked for you, let's look at what's really going on. 💭

Balance Problems

Struggling to stay balanced in the saddle can feel like a riding skills issue — but very often, it isn't. Balance depends on strength, coordination, and proprioception (your body's sense of where it is in space), and if any of these are off, no amount of practice in the saddle will fully fix it.

Physio can assess exactly which of these systems isn't pulling its weight, and build targeted work to improve it — so your balance improves both on and off the horse.

If balance has been holding you back, it might not be about riding more — it might be about addressing what's underneath it. Book an assessment and let's find out. ⚖️

How Your Asymmetry Shows Up in Your Horse

If your horse feels completely different on each rein, it's easy to assume it's all down to the horse's own stiffness. But often, part of the story is you.

Rider asymmetry — a stronger side, an uneven seat, a dominant leg — can directly influence how your horse moves, balances and bends. Your horse is simply responding to what it feels underneath it.

Working on your own symmetry could be the missing piece for a more even, balanced ride on both reins. Want to find out where your imbalances might be? Reach out and let's take a look. 🐎

5 Injuries Riders Ignore

Riders are notorious for pushing through pain until it turns into a much bigger problem. These are five of the injuries I see most often in clinic:

Lower back pain from repetitive loading and poor pelvic control
Hip and groin strain from gripping or compensating for instability
Knee pain linked to saddle position and leg alignment
Shoulder and neck tension from rein tension and upper body bracing
Old ankle injuries affecting stirrup position and leg stability

The good news? Physio can help with all of them — by identifying the underlying cause, not just treating the symptom, and building a plan specific to how you ride.

If any of these sound familiar, don't wait for it to get worse. Book a session and let's sort it properly. 🩹
