Last week at Engelberg Care Home we celebrated Oktoberfest with some of our residents. They chose to have afternoon drinks and nibbles, and we had a wonderful afternoon celebrating, reminiscing and talking about life 🍻

Meet Marie, our Wellbeing Lead at Moorhouse Care Home ! 💕

Marie plays an important role in making sure our residents feel valued, listened to and supported as individuals.

She started her career in care in 2020. After being furloughed from her role as assistant manager at a menswear company, she couldn’t sit at home while others needed help, so she joined a local care home as a carer. She enjoyed spending time with the residents so much that she has stayed in care ever since.

For Marie, wellbeing means making every day count, helping residents feel valued for who they are and making sure they continue to experience joy, purpose and meaningful connections, whatever their abilities or stage of life.

Outside of work, Marie gives her time to raising money for local charities and historic venues!

We have some new faces at Moorhouse Care Home! Floppsie and Flump the bunnies and Trevor and George the tortoises have moved in and are settling in well.

Many of our residents had pets of their own before moving in, and helping to look after these four brings back that familiar sense of care and independence. One resident told us she loves having them around because she had lots of pets years ago.

They also make for lovely animal therapy, and spending time with them has become a calming activity for residents after lunch 😊

On Wednesday we held The Great Ashberry Bake Off at Broomy Hill Nursing Home ! 🎉
Many of our staff brought in their entries and of course the baking club residents entered too. Julie had the difficult but delicious task of judging and crowned Regan the Bake Off Champion with her chocolate mint toadstool cupcakes. Congratulations Regan and well done to everyone who entered. Afterwards residents and staff all got to enjoy the cakes 🧁

Shwmae Su’mae Day is a day marked each year across Wales to celebrate and promote the Welsh language. “Shwmae” and “su’mae” are informal greetings used in the south and north to start a conversation, and that’s exactly what our residents and team at Allt Y Mynydd and Blaenos House did yesterday 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

For many of our residents, Welsh is the language they grew up with, and hearing and speaking it every day is part of what makes our homes feel like home. At Ashberry Healthcare, Welsh is part of everyday life at both homes, and we’re glad to celebrate it.

Ashberry Wish granted at Meadowview Care Home ! 🎉

On Tuesday we granted three residents’ wishes and made our way to the garden centre for a bite to eat and a look around. We also visited the fish 🐠🪴

Back at home, residents did some scrapbooking and personalised their own books about their lives and hobbies.
