I always thought being strong meant pushing through. And I guess I was strong, but I didn’t always realise the cost. 🧡
I’ve lived with pain and hypermobility from a young age, and was later diagnosed with an invisible disability.
I had my children, worked in the corporate world, then left my job to spend more time with my family. Along the way, I discovered Reiki, became a practitioner, and found aromatherapy, breathwork and meditation.
These became part of my own wellbeing journey, helping me find moments of calm.
Then, in my early 60s, I returned to employment for a more reliable income. After a fall, ongoing pain and work stress became harder to manage, until eventually I reached a point where I had to stop.
Now I’m learning that being strong doesn’t always mean carrying on. It means slowing down, listening to yourself, finding a gentler way forward and asking for help on the difficult days.
I’m still figuring it out, one day at a time. 💛
