Patient safety has always been at the heart of SR 🤍
Today’s government proposals for tighter regulation of high-risk aesthetic treatments in England align with the values we are building SR Integrated Health & Wellness Clinic around: appropriate qualifications, honest advice, thorough assessment and accountability.
As an advanced nurse practitioner and independent prescriber, I believe good care means understanding the person behind the treatment, recognising risks and knowing when to treat, when to say no and when to refer.
We are working towards CQC registration as part of developing our wider healthcare service. This involves looking closely at our policies, training, clinical governance and the systems that support safe patient care.
What could these changes mean if they go ahead?
Certain high-risk treatments, including PRP, would be restricted to specified healthcare professionals, including independent prescribing nurses, and providers would need the appropriate CQC registration. Cosmetic surgery and body filler procedures would be restricted to doctors.
My prescribing qualification would meet the proposed professional requirement for nurses, but qualifications alone are not enough. Each treatment still requires appropriate training, competence and the right clinical setting.
These are proposals, not rules that have come into force today, and our CQC registration is still something we are working towards.
For us, this supports the direction we have already chosen for SR: a nurse-led clinic where your wellbeing, informed choices and ongoing care come first.
