A huge thank you to Charlotte, a long-time supporter and fundraiser for GBSS, who recently organised a yard sale to raise funds for the charity.

Charlotte's eldest daughter, Aimee, developed group B Strep infection at just five days old, leaving her with cerebral palsy and lifelong disabilities.

Since then, Charlotte has been a passionate advocate, campaigner and fundraiser for GBSS. Like so many others in our community, we're incredibly grateful for her continued support, generosity and dedication.

Thank you, Charlotte.

Infection Prevention Week starts today 💙💛

Preventing group B Strep infection starts with healthcare professionals having the right knowledge, at the right time.

That’s why we offer free eLearning on group B Strep for healthcare professionals working in maternity, neonatal and primary care.

The course covers recognising babies at risk, preventing early-onset GBS infection, spotting the signs of early- and late-onset GBS infection and, importantly, how to talk about GBS with expectant and new parents.

If you’re a healthcare professional, take a look. And if you work with maternity or neonatal teams, please share it with your colleagues.

Better knowledge can help prevent GBS infection and help keep babies safe.

As Baby Loss Awareness Week draws to a close, we are joining families around the world for the Wave of Light. A candle to remember all the much-loved babies who died too soon. 💙💛

For some, lighting a candle can be a special way to remember and honour their baby. For others, Baby Loss Awareness Week can bring difficult memories and emotions to the surface.

If your baby died following group B Strep infection, or GBS has affected you or your family in another way, please remember that we’re here for you, not just this week, but throughout the year.

There are also resources and information on our website that you can look at whenever feels right for you. And if you’d prefer to talk to someone, you can email our team at [email protected] or call our helpline on 0330 120 0796.

Whatever today brings for you, you don’t have to go through it alone.

During Monday's Baby Loss Awareness Week debate in Parliament, Alison Bennett for Mid Sussex paid a wonderful tribute to Group B Strep Support, our Chief Executive Jane Plumb, and the decades of campaigning behind the charity.

Alison spoke about baby Theo Plumb, whose death from group B Strep infection led Jane and her husband Robert to establish the charity, and reflected on the work Jane, Oliver and the team have done to help protect other babies.

Alison asked the Health Secretary to listen to our calls for routine GBS screening in pregnancy.

Responding to the debate, Health Secretary Yvette Cooper confirmed that evidence from the GBS3 trial, a major study investigating routine group B Strep screening in pregnancy, will go to the UK National Screening Committee for consideration.

We're hugely grateful to Alison for speaking so warmly about our work, and for continuing to raise this important issue in Parliament.

As we remember the babies who have died during Baby Loss Awareness Week, we remain committed to campaigning for better information, testing and prevention.

If you or your baby has been affected by Group B Strep, you may have questions about what happened during delivery, the impact on your health or your baby’s health, and what comes next.

We’re pleased to share that one of our expert Legal Panel firms, Leigh Day, is offering free, confidential consultations for anyone affected by group B Strep who would like to understand whether legal support may be available.

The clinics will be led by Emmalene Bushnell, a partner in Leigh Day’s medical negligence team and a highly experienced lawyer with over 20 years’ experience. She is recognised in The Legal 500 as a Leading Partner and is noted for her work on cases involving group B Strep and gynaecological harm. Emmalene will listen to your experience and, where possible, provide advice and recommended next steps. This is a safe, supportive and no-obligation opportunity to ask questions and raise any concerns you may have.

The clinics will run from Monday 19 to Friday 23 October, between 10am and 4pm. To book your appointment, please contact Emmalene via email: [email protected]. If these dates do not work for you, we can arrange an alternative time.

Please note that Leigh Day can provide general advice only at this stage. The consultation does not create a client relationship with you.
