✨ A little trip beneath the skin… ✨
I finally made it to BODY WORLDS: The Anatomy of Happiness in South Kensington — and I have to say, I was very excited about this one!
I’ve missed previous BODY WORLDS exhibitions when they’ve been in London, so when I realised this one was finally here, I knew I had to go.
As a massage therapist, I spend my working days feeling and working with the body from the outside. I’m constantly thinking about muscles, fascia, movement, posture, tension, compensation and how one area of the body can influence another.
But seeing the structures underneath the skin, in real human specimens, gives anatomy a completely different perspective.
It’s one thing to look at an anatomy diagram or textbook. It’s another to actually see the complexity, layers and relationships of the human body in front of you.
For me, exhibitions like this are more than just fascinating — they’re another way of learning.
They help me to:
🦴 Visualise anatomical structures in three dimensions
💪 Better understand how muscles and structures relate to movement
🧠 Reinforce knowledge I’ve already gained through training
🔎 Look at the body with a little more curiosity when I’m assessing and treating a client
🤲 Connect what I’m feeling with my hands to what I know is happening underneath
📚 Keep developing my knowledge rather than ever assuming I’ve “finished learning”
And perhaps that’s one of the things I love most about being a therapist — you never really stop learning about the human body.
Every client teaches you something. Every treatment gives you another piece of the puzzle. And experiences like this help build an even bigger picture.
I came away fascinated, inspired and probably asking myself “I wonder what’s going on under there?” even more than usual! 😂
The human body really is an extraordinary thing. ❤️
