Eye pressure matters in glaucoma, but it is only one part of the assessment. Your consultant may also examine the optic nerve and use OCT imaging, visual field testing or other measurements where appropriate.

The aim is to understand structure, function and any change over time. Not every person needs the same combination at every visit, so the pathway is tailored to the clinical question.

Biometry is part of planning for cataract or lens surgery.

VISIO uses the ZEISS IOLMaster 700 to take optical measurements, including the length of the eye and front-surface curvature.

The consultant considers those readings alongside your eye health, daily visual needs and other tests before discussing lens options. Measurements support an individual plan, but they cannot guarantee that somebody will never need glasses again.

At VISIO, the ZEISS Humphrey Field Analyzer 3 may form part of a glaucoma or neuro-ophthalmic assessment where clinically appropriate.

A visual field test measures central and peripheral vision while you keep looking at one point. You press a button when you notice a light.

Some lights are deliberately faint, so it is normal not to see every one. This is not an exam to pass. Blink normally and ask for a short pause if needed.

Your consultant reviews the result with your symptoms, examination and other relevant findings.
